I'll take the opposite position then. I think it's worth a shot. McClaren has something to offer. I respect the fact that he didn't hide after his England tenure, but rebuilt his reputation in Holland and Germany. Bobby Robson did something similar; left the national job and acquired broader experience. I think the Notts Forest job was more politics. I think there's some succession planning in mind here also, if Redknapp doesn't last the season. Should Harry depart mid-season, McClaren could be offered an interim stewardship and it'd be his to lose at the end of the season.
