Steve Mclaren

This really goes to backup DT's assertions about how high profile we still are. Would a former England manager be linked with a coaching role at any other Championship club?

It goes without saying that I don't actually want him either......
 
I agree with most that I wouldn't want McLaren as manager but as a coach he is proven and very highly rated.

There is good 'coaching' project at QPR, with the need to bring young players through the youth set up into the first team and the need to start buying players within our budget and making them better players in order to compete. He may also act as help for the scouts, he spent time in Holland and Germany where I am sure he made a few contacts.

Could be a very shrewd appointment in my opinion.
 
I'll take the opposite position then. I think it's worth a shot. McClaren has something to offer. I respect the fact that he didn't hide after his England tenure, but rebuilt his reputation in Holland and Germany. Bobby Robson did something similar; left the national job and acquired broader experience. I think the Notts Forest job was more politics. I think there's some succession planning in mind here also, if Redknapp doesn't last the season. Should Harry depart mid-season, McClaren could be offered an interim stewardship and it'd be his to lose at the end of the season.
 
This is a very good appointment if true. He was pivotal in shaping the dominant Man United team of the late 90's. Roy Keane mentioned how brilliant his training sessions were. Those who are complaining about this need a reality check. His managerial record is questionable, but there are successes at FC Twente wrestling the title away from PSV and Ajax. This is as good as any signing to get our players technically sharp and playing modern football.

Agree with this but dont see why this is a bad thing. He is unarguably a top coach who knows how to spot talent and develop ii and unlike most of the championship we have very wealthy owners who intend to invest it in us

Plus for McClaren is that he's back in England as I 'm sure he doesn't want to spend his career at his age in the European leagues (even if he has had success). Also dare I say it there is a project for him to get involved in, new training ground on the way and a club with a lot of potential to improve in many ways

If he's good at his job and TF and co have done their sums and see it as value for money then i dont see it as a bad thing. He's being appointed as a coach so wont be on a fortune. Not sure how much more would he be on then this Hodges bloke who left, certainly not enough to be worried about, and he has proven ability as a very good coach
 
Well his a shrewd business man, did sweat FA for England and walked away with a 2.5 million payoff for 18 months work, very clever. Crap manager though.

So what his wages going to be ? The standard for a coach, I bet not ? Another overpaid member of personnel IMO.
