OK what do we know? 1) SK has resigned as a Director, that's all..resigned as a Director... not resigned as an employee just off the Board. I am a Director of two Companies, I was a Director of more but now just two.... there was nothing sinister in me resigning some Directorships it was just when circumstances changed, I resigned at the appropriate time. Like SK I did not stop being involved with those Companies, I just stopped being a Director, I would go to Board meetings but I would not be involved in any votes. 2) SK is still CEO and I guess Finance Manager at present and with Prothero coming in (an Executive Vice Chairman is an active role as opposed to a non-executive role which is just advisory) to replace Reg (SK's mate) then perhaps MP has new ideas which SK doesn't agree with? Who knows? Ars longa, vita brevis, iudicium difficile. (Art is long, Life is short and decision difficult) Let's wait to find out what's really going on before jumping to conclusions
Here is the difference between you and me Charltonnutnut: 1. I note that Steve Kavanagh has resigned from the board, though not from his job as CEO as your post suggests. Probably the continuation of a restructure that you and I know nothing about. 2. Because this got a mention on CL as well as the OS I dont see it as the ultimate proof that everything on CL is true and profetic. In fact I read it on the OS before you posted on here. 3. While I don't rate Leon Clarke I also don't think that the club not wanting to pay a high percentage of his wages for him to play for another club shows we are in crisis. 4. I will believe the Lawrie Wilson thing when he tells me about it in person or at least goes to the press with it. 5. I like proof rather than speculation. 6. I think constantly talking the club down in a public forum will do us harm, in the same way that booing players when they need our support does us harm on the pitch. 7. I do not find it necessary to resort to insult to make an argument. If all this makes you and Dick, Charlton through and through and me a plastic, bovril swilling ostrich then so be it.
So between us we have been told by a director and now CP that it's "nothing to worry about". That's not acknowledging that something has/is going on, but just to be patient. I've just read on another post something about "people without contacts at the club thinking everything is fine". So what about those with contacts at the club (not the chef) who have been told nothing except "not to worry". And speculation about the valley being sold- well the person who discussed selling it several years ago left recently- but you fail to acknowledge it due to the mans (deserved) popularity. All the "facts" of last month haven't occurred either. 90% of what's said is bull****. Elements of truth are ruined by those who make up sources and what they've heard. Those people, who apparently get a kick out of worrying other fans, are absolute..
Too right, eat this up and come back to reality scaremongerers ! I honestly wonder what type of feeling or how the brain operates of someone who is so fake and negative like the Cnut. "curtain twitchers " - i loved this one.
Personally I'm going to be patient with this and put my trust in the board. Whilst they're not necessarily all 'Charlton lads', they have made significant investments in the club and will do everything they can to not make a loss on it. That means our club will not be going into administration or anything as ridiculously catastrophic. We're seemingly operating on sensible financial footing, and this presumably is the reason our wage budget will not be stretched and why we wish to get Hayes and Clark out of the building. We've sold no key players and don't look set to do so, in fact its been reported that we've rejected substantial bids for Solly etc. Thus it appears the 'money-men' will not be looking for any quick fixes IF there is a problem. As for those who have used this thread/forum to pathetically gloat about how they were right all along (without providing any evidence), not only are you making yourself look like tits, you're damaging the reputation of our club. Whilst I'm sure potential signings won't tap 'Charlton Life/Not 606' into Google before signing, word gets around fast on the internet, there are articles on Newsnow suggesting we have financial issues and similar thoughts have been publicised in local newspapers. All of which seem to derive from a solitary source - Charlton Life. In turn, all of the speculation on Charlton Life stems from one single post. I won't tarnish the whole of Charlton Life with the same brush, they're not a political party or a religion and thus each member thinks individually about the issues raised. Yet some of the scaremongering on that site has been ridiculous. Especially the idea of protesting against Jiminez at Welling. Some people have seriously short memories, the only thing that we know for sure, is that Jiminez/Slater et al purchased this club at a time when we were potentially weeks away from administration, they put their money into the club, they appointed a club legend as the manager - they gave said manager the freedom in the transfer market to sign 20+ players, who then went ahead and smashed a number of club and league records whilst winning the title. 7 years of **** as a Charlton fan, and within 18 months of Jiminez/Slater taking over we were once again truly happy football fans, and could wear our Charlton shirts with true pride. If putting my faith in the men who allowed me to enjoy the happiest season I've ever had as a Charlton fan makes me an ostrich/plastic/idiot (rather than putting my faith in one poster on CL), then so be it.
I ask you to check out the Barnet match thread for some much needed calm. Not blowing my trumpet or anything, but I had a chat with CP and a few of the players last night. There is a sense of togetherness and serenity within the squad that could not happen if the club were in a state of strife.
Like you WeWant, I'm quite relaxed knowing Michael Slater is a Man City season ticket holder and while he clearly shared in and celebrated our success last season, at no time does he pretend to be a fan. The sight of Robert Maxwell wearing an Oxford United baseball cap still turns my stomach, as do pictures of the current motley band of foreign investors wearing their brand new scarves.
To be fair to the moderators/owners of CharltonLife, I wandered on to their website on the way home today and saw a thread about Kavanagh's resignation with 444 posts - I guess this is the thread. So if people are calling for the thread to be hidden from Joe Punter, it looks like the moderators aren't listening to that, which is fair enough. Anyway, I've got a bathtub full of custard here. Who wants in?
Ponders. Good post. I doubt the players would look so relaxed if there was something brown floating to the surface at the Valley. I know after the last thirty years paranoia is part of an Addick's DNA but lets just sit tight a bit here. There's a lot of mountains being built on a mole hill of facts.
Yum - newsreader custard... There's Julie Etchingham in there already, I assume - if you chuck Susanna Reid, Annita McVeigh and Alice Bhandhukravi in as well, I'll be in Nottingham in about two hours.
Have i missed it all? I would have been here earlier but like a plonker i put my head in what i thought was standard sand, turns out it was quicksand and i had to be pulled to safety by Geoff Capes
It seems that CL have now decided that the end of the world is NOT nigh and that perhaps Charlton are also NOT within hours of liquidation I wonder why nutnut did not come on here to post this update?
I just read it . I also read "airman browns" posts. I'm amazed no one has pulled him up on his ridiculous "we'll be lucky to make it to the start of the season" comment. I did tell everyone he is full of ****. I've witnessed it first hand. It's just a shame some will still see him as a martyr when in fact he is a glorified pencil pusher. So if we are now safe again and TJ is a hero- do we remove our head from the sand and get out of our custard bath, located in the centre of lala land with monsters etc etc?
