In a nutshell, Fran. I suppose I'm in the traditionalist camp, in terms of buggering around with the English language [did you enjoy the irony..?], but I can see the point of those who would like to simplify it. English is like an old British town or city. It has evolved in a higgledy-piggledy way and doesn't conform to a nice modern grid pattern. It's the result of invasion, economic and cultural exchange and there is a history in the actual words. That might mean nothing to many people but it means a lot to others. Btw, how did we get here..? I thought this was about Steeeeeve.
I also think that our huge variety of words has contributed to our sense of humour. Most jokes are designed to lead you one way, then hit you with an entirely different scenario. And let us not forget the pinnacle of humour: the punathon!
I remember reading on here, after his first game against West Brom, some people saying he's as good as Chamberlain, some even said he was better! The thing I liked about him was that when he had the ball, he actually knocked it past the defender and actually moved the ball forward. Even if he did lose the ball, there were so many times last season where we needed to counter quickly and passed sideways, like a Rugby team (not in the hoof sense though!). 9 goals and 11 assists in 34 games in the 09/10 season isn't bad, he does have something.
He'll turn out to be a world-class striker now and we've been playing him out of position all this time...
