While we continue to naval gaze other 'lesser' teams are catching us up and overtaking us! Look at that lot up the road for instance, a smaller club yet now they are the new media darlings! You would think they have reinvented the wheel up there in Norfolkland!
Thing is JWM, we are behind them because of the Dark Lord plain and simple, not PJ. As for our 'shoulders laden with chips' friends up the road. the summer will be interesting for them, I predict that a few players might have their heads turned by the bigger clubs then the fun will really start! plus if Harry gets the England job, surely Lambchop must be a contender for the spurs job, and what with hopefully champions league football it could all fall apart as that offer would be too good to turn down. cue supers blubbering some arrogant tripe!
Touché! Will certainly be interesting seeing our players lured to bigger clubs. Most are under contract still so won't leave on the cheap. And aside from the big 5, there aren't many clubs that would represent an upwards move from Norwich. And I'm sure Lambert could replace them anyway. Why would Lambert leave after he has spent 3 years building the squad he has and then start again from scratch?
Me thinks he protest too much! **** me one season in the prem and they are the same size as liverpool, everton, villa & etc etc
Shakespeare deserves to be quoted correctly methinks! http://www.enotes.com/shakespeare-quotes/lady-doth-protest-too-much-methinks
How the Crawley players marked the departure of Steve Evans...
Bigger in terms of fanbase? Yes. But Aston Villa... barely above the relegation zone... Liverpool... sinking ship... (and no first team football) Everton... a sideways move. Wages might lure them, but they're less likely to be motivated by money then most players. The ultimate irony is that money is the motivation of most of your players like Leadbitter and Bullard, so how dare you criticise us?
Money is the motivation of all but a very very very very very very few players(so few i cannae name one) no matter for whom they play.
Nobody will ever deny that. Now this thread (as with them all) has been invaded by the usual Norwich trolls, most of which I have on “ignore”, can I enquire of one the two that aren’t (not that I'm putting you in the "troll" category) about how Norwich were shaped up when Gunn went? The obvious parallel being that Lambert turned you around very quickly (or instantaneously, so it would seem by someone from outside only paying very vague attention, I.E., me). Is our squad in a bigger heinous shambles that yours was at the time? I’m assuming here that you know enough about our condition to make a judgement.
So you have the same global fanbase as Liverpool...! **** me you were in League 1 only 2 years ago and now you are global brand!
JWM, I'm going to knit pick here but you say Keane has set us back 5 years yet 2 years on from his tenure you expect us to be in a higher position than before he took over and if not Jewell should be sacked?? By that reckoning Jewell needs at least another 3 years before we can finish in 9th in this division!! I think again next season we will have a slow start, so judging Jewell by xmas may not be appropriate. Plus being in the top half next season would be progress, do we want to sack another manager for the sake of not progressing quickly and then probably having to start all over again?? I think in this league if you get a half decent manager(I know alot of you don't think PJ is) I think how you get one over on the other clubs is stability. It appears those with rich benefactors change their manager all to often that it doesn't work and those that cannot afford the big bucs stick with their managers but can't afford to buy the big name players. Whilst continuity should not happen for continuity sake it is something to strive for. As for Norwich I think if Lambert stays there they're certainly onto a good thing. All I can say is I hope he moves on pretty soon, we don't want them getting too good!! Unfortunately Rodgers appears to be getting all the attention and Lambert is going under the radar slightly, I don't know why. Lambert is certainly a better manager than Rodgers!! JJ you make a very good point. Their squad was I believe a bit of a shambles but at the same time they didn't have very many players left at the club and not many on long term contracts or high wages so they could basically start from a fresh with probably fairly low expectations. Plus Lambert had a good knowledge of targets probably from his time a Colchester, so was aware of the talent in the lower leagues. Plus what Lambert did and has done I think you will find is exceptional. If JJ you are hinting that we should be able to progress like them I think we will be sacking alot of managers before we are able to achieve that in such a short space of time!!
I know I know – I was just getting depressed with these doom-laden assessments of how long it’d be before we pulled ourselves around from the Keane thing. Clutching at straws. At least Lambert shows that it can be done, even if their squad wasn’t quite in a Keane standard shambles. One thing’s for sure – they were heinously organised and motivated (1-7 Colchester). That at least shows how a good manager can transform that. I was trumpeting the ex-Stevenage manager Graham Westley partly because of the knowledge he’d have of sub-Championship players (he’d gone them up to Lg 1 from the Conf – as has the Exeter manager). Having nailed my colours to that mast, he’s hardly setting things alight at Preston right now.
jonah, norwich's squad was a complete shambles. we barely had any contracted players, we'd loaned if i remember correctly, 24 players in two and a half seasons! we had no youth coming through except korey smith, the boardroom was a mess because mcnally hadn't arrived and we still had doncaster instead, our players we're unfit, those who remained had high wages and frankly its astonishing that it was less than three years ago. if i could rate our squad at that time we were relegated out of 100 with 100 being top of the premier league and 0 being bottom of league two i'd rate it as about a 15 - thats how **** it was. yours currently is probably, from the outside looking in, about a 40 - below average. some big names but quite poor ability due to many factors. not sure if any of that makes sense mate! and just on a side note, to those suggesting, obviosuly, that lambert will walk at the slightest sniff of another job, i have never been more confident that moving on is the last thing on his mind. now of course, if man united come calling then he'll be off like a shot, and quite rightly, but spurs fans are already demanding a big name, villa do not hold the kind of sway they used to and everton have less finance than we do. he will leave one day, but it won't be this summer. he's not stupid and he knows what he's on to in norfolk - he's got a real chance to make the kind of stamp on a club managers dream about. why give that up unless its for something truly massive? he is currently untouchable here. he won't get the same kind of commitment or backing anywhere else as it stands. he has time here to do whatever he wants. its the dream ticket and i'd be surprised if he left in the next two years.
It makes me sick but I think I agree with you Superman. The Premierships isn't of a high quality so Lambert won't be tempted by many teams and at the same time the big teams want a big name manager. The only possibilities I see are Villa & maybe even Newcastle if Pardew leaves, possibly WBA if Hogdson gets the england job. But then saying that, stranger things have happened, it doesn't take alot for things to dramatically change in football, as Norwich have found the in the past 3-4 years at both ends of the spectrum!!
west brom? i think you are seriously clutching at straws there! why would you leave a similar size club where you have total control and where you are building a young, english team to go to a lesser part of england (no offence baggies but the black country is a dive) where you have to start again from a position lower than where he left off? seriously chaps - unless its an unbelievable offer, he'll still be norwich manager for some time to come.
I think Superman your getting too big for your boots again with that last comment, as I've said I usually agree with you on most things you say but sometimes this season i just want to smack you round the head!! If you read my comment I was generally agreeing with you. As for WBA, they have better players than you have and a bigger budget. If Lambert could manage 2 teams over the course of a season he would finish higher with WBA than he would with Norwich!!
You have to let them dream, Supers. I've lost count of the amount of straws they've clutched at over the last 18 months.
Oooh yes Guru HOW DAAAARE YOU! He’ll be waving his handbag shouting “oopsie daisy” if we’re not careful.
