Steve Conroy, the Scottish referee, has resigned from being a ref. apparently there are several others due to follow because they are unhappy about the way they have been treated by the ref supervisors like Hugh Dallas and Donald McVicar and the processes still in place.

Conroy has be thinking about jacking it in for three years.

And there was me thinking that it was all Lenny's fault from last year because the refs were happy as pigs in **** before he turned up.

STEVE CONROY last night quit top-flight refereeing after becoming disillusioned with life as a whistler.

And Record Sport can reveal other high-profile officials are set to follow suit at the end of the season.

Conroy has felt for several years there have been problems with the way the men in black have been treated by their heads of department at the SFA.

It started with Donald McVicar and he also had differences with Hugh Dallas. Dallas was removed from the SFA last season and was replaced by John Fleming.

It’s understood the refs feel Fleming is more approachable but too many of the in-house rules and regulations set by Dallas are still in place.

Refs and assistants refs feel the fitness tests are too strict and too much time is being demanded of them for training nights and meetings.

Conroy had considered quitting for the past three seasons but finally decided to call it a day. His resignation has been accepted.

He was in charge of the controversial clash between Rangers and Dunfermline when he awarded a penalty after Gers striker Sone Aluko went down under a challenge from Martin Hardie.

That call was investigated by the compliance officer and it was decided Aluko should be banned for diving.

A refereeing source told Record Sport: “There’s a feeling the refs are not being given enough protection from their superiors.

“There’s also too much demanded from them away from their actual games.

“Steve quitting isn’t a shock to many of us. He has been unhappy with several things.

“But more may well follow. Several of our refs find too many things unsatisfactory.”

Conroy won’t officiate at any senior level in Scotland but will be on the list for the Paralympics in London in September

I didn't know football was in the Paralympics - is it blind football (with a bell in the ball)?

Have you seen the paddy power advert when the cat gets punted? It's like that <ok>

The time that referees and linesmen commit to in order to keep the SFA happy is unreal. Pretty sure most of them don't mind though, it's part and parcel of being a grade 1 official <ok>

I was hoping it was paraplegic football with big ****ey snail trails all over the pitch <laugh>

I used to play football with a young lad who was training to be a ref (used to turn up wearing his SFA gear<laugh>).

He was fit as fuck.

On the Conroy thing, is this the start of the floodgates?

Conroy was treated disgracefully by the SFA during Dougiedougiegate - he ended up admitting that the stuff about threats to his children was lies (wonder who told him to do that?) and that Dougie and Dallas told him to lie.

Hopefully, the good ones won't leave and not the old boys network types.

What with all that's going on in Scottish fitba' just now, this could be a chance for a proper overhaul <ok>

This <ok>

You speak too much sense at times Bib.

Will be remembered for his two honest mistakes in his only old firm game , not sending off Lafferty , disallowing a perfect Celtic goal

Magic , that was one of the three old firm games in a row that Rangers got honest mistake after honest mistake , Celtic after said no more , decided to take on sfa / referees for fairness . Rangers will be nobodies once all teams play under the same rules

Gabby Johnson says what needed to be said.

I think Steve Conroy leaving and the talk of more leaving, is all down to the same problem that is bringing Rangers to their knees. I think
it could be the now infamous two contract clause. I am not saying for one moment that Scottish hierarchy exercised two contracts, sure
I don't think anyone would be that stupid. However it appears a club who I don't intend to name, only to say they come from Govan and
some people think they had a contract to pay referees and assistants who were officiating in key games of theirs.
