Liverpool Football Club is part of their empire and they didn't need to "drop everything" as you put it. they could have done it when it suited them and they didn't all need to speak to Kenny either. IMO, you don't put someone on a plane for eight hours so you can tell them they are sacked and they've got to fly back again. Anyway, if you look above to my first comment about this, you will realise that I don't believe that they flew him over there to sack him. I think he was flown over to discuss the season and the way forward but they obviously couldn't agree on one thing or another and the decision was taken to terminate his employment. I was merely pointing out why others think it is unfair which, if he was flown over just to be sacked, I 100% agree with
Too much sentimentality is blinding people here. As Kenny reminded us not too long ago, no man is bigger than the club. I wasn't aware Clarke was forced to go and see the game, was he dragged kicking and screaming? I didn't see Kenny there so obviously Clarke had a choice to go or not.
Nothing sentimental about my comments. If it had been Roy Hodgson or Alex Ferguson, my opinion and comments would have been exactly the same. The only difference being that I'd also be laughing it it was Fergie
I think they showed suitable respect - at the end of the day they are the ones that were paying his wages, own his club and gave him the job. We need to wake up - Fergie is a better manager and United had a far better season than us, despite the CC win. So did Chelsea, so did Spurs and so did Arsenal. Newcastle made us look average. There are so many 'ifs' and 'buts' - at the end of the day we weren't good enough, Kenny played a big part in that and he lost his job in what was a professional manner. We move on.
Wrong! Liverpool FC payed his wages and whilst they do own the club it is the fans who ultimately are the reason Liverpool FC exist. The man is a Liverpool legend and despite anyones opinion of whether Kenny deserved more time he certainly deserved to be sacked in a more respectful way, we are not some small buiding firm from a village where you ask a guy to the pub before sacking him. One of Werner or Henry could have and should have flown over if their intention was to offer Kenny an 'upstairs role', perhaps they did not envisage Kenny saying no but it is either naivety or just insensitive.
Sorry Shanks, having Kenny go to the mountain was a clear demonstration of where the true power lies. Let's be honest. Whilst Kenny will always be a legend to me, will his absence stop me supporting LFC? These things have to be put into perspective and has been said above we move on! None of us know what was discussed at that meeting, we only know the outcome - the rest is mere speculation.
It doesn't stop me supporting Liverpool either but does it leave me thinking they handled it badly? Yes. Does it leave me questioning their ethics to an extent? Yes. Does it leave me wondering if they can treat a legend who is adored by the fans so poorly if they really care for the fans? Possibly. Look we move on, we have to but Clarke's comments show that even those closer and in the know feel he was unfairly treated.
All the fans in the world wouldn't have saved the club last year. Look at Rangers, who knows what's going to happen to them. You can pick holes all you want but I doubt Kenny lost much sleep over going to America, so we shouldn't either. He was a great player and a great player manager etc but this time he deserved to go and he did. He's not some kind of champion of all that's good in the world, the club is bigger than him.
'Look at Rangers, who knows what's going to happen to them.' Newco Rangers are going into the Scottish 3rd division for the cheating past of the Rangers oldco. 'He's not some kind of champion of all that's good in the world' He(and his wife)are 'champions' of the HFSG and local women's cancer charities and the way he was sacked was classless.
