Just remember all you Sagbo knockers.....who scored the goal at Brighton in the last few minutes.without it you would have been nowhere near Wembley..twice.
Am awful lot of knee jerk reactions on here. We've been saying for weeks how strong our squad looks. But we get knocked out of a competition (we didn't lose) and suddenly they're reserves! I'm as gutted as anyone, but won't be knocking the players or manager. I'm just looking forward to our next scenario that ten years ago looked impossible. COYH
Ahh, those were the days. When the current kitman, John Eyre, was scoring the last gasp winner at Hartlepool in a 1-0 victory, and Rodney Rowe, Clint Marcelle and Kevin Francis were all in the same team. People who are whining that this is the "end of the world" for City should luck back and realise how lucky we are to never mind be in the Premier League and have a brilliant team - but just to have a top-class football club in the city of Hull.
As much as I like Sagbo, that argument is poor. Here, I'll prove it. "Just remember all you Proschwitz knockers.... who scored twice in the final 10 minutes to secure a 2-1 win against Ipswich in our 12/13 promotion season? And also scored against Cardiff in that fantastic final day game against Cardiff? Without them you would have been still in the Championship"
I think all these views on Bruce are a little naïve. People keep saying "we may never get the chance again". Have you seen our team lately? We're massively improving and should finish a lot higher this season. And who knows, higher again next season if progress remains on track. Bruce has taken our team/club to a whole new level. Europe is closer than it's ever been in terms of a domestic league finish. I'm not saying we're going to go finish 6th-7th this season, but we'll be closer to those spots than last season. I'm not saying I wanted us out this evening. I'm as gutted as the rest of you. But to say those who "wanted us out/focus on the league" aren't ambitious. I'd disagree to some degree. I think those of you saying "we may never get in Europe again/for a while" are the ones who really lack ambition. We've grown so much over the last 24 months. Where will we be in another 24 months?
Oh and Sagbo started because of how long Jela spent running his arse off on Sunday without being fully match fit (and he hasn't had much of a pre-season).
Come on Hatty the faux anger and irony is wearing a bit thin now. Disappointed as I am, he is the right man for us and trading him in is not an option just now. There were players tonight given a chance and they failed. We are a solid Premier League outfit with now, but we now have to think about shedding a few of the lesser talented squad members and up grade. Anyway I've probably fallen into the trap just by responding. UTT
Thought Sagbo was decent considering the lack of service he had. There were a few occasions he was making a run in space through the middle when the midfield was breaking out. Just needed an easy pass and he'd have been in on goal. He was actually pointing where to make the pass. The pass never came. Midfield was the weakness today.
To put that into perspective, even Southampton (who people were waxing lyrical about last season) are not in Europe this season. The lowest qualifying team, Spurs, won 21 games last season. That is the equivalent of beating more than half of the table home and away. Our only realistic chance in the near future is in the cup competitions (which I believe requires winning the cup now).
We missed Quinniesta and Snodgrass tonight. Harsh criticism of Sagbo general consensus now was it was a bad decision. Bruce in a no win situation with the game tonight, had to rest Jelly in my opinion after he ran his heart out when we had 10 men on Sunday.
We was never going to win the Europa league. The later stages you get the big boys like inter Milan. We can though aim for a higher premier league position bringing in more money in turn spent on better players
I've just been thinking the same, he's not much better. I can't understand why some on here rate him, I just don't see that he contributes anything worthwhile as a striker. Doesn't score, doesn't hold the ball up, doesn't win headers and repeatedly caught offside. Aluko was even worse, which is a shame as a lot of people who went to last week's game said he played really well then but was shocking again last night. I still think we need another striker even if we get Hernandez and expect Brucie to go for someone on loan, maybe even Welbeck.
