Gyan does not look fit - this DJ'n is obviously a detraction - hopefully his focus will be on football now. We have lost the battle - the war is still their to be won - take off your blinkers - there is more to the Premier league than beating them up the road - and those prizes are still there for the taking. I would give Bruce until Christmas (barring a run of 4 or 5 defeats) and then take a view and for whats it worth I reckon Quinn & Short's will be more in line with this option than the supporters calling for his head now. You think them up the road get viewed as a laughing stock - well if we got shot of Bruce now we would be viewed as bad as them by the media - and that's a fact. If we are obviously in the clarts before Christmas he has to go, if we are not in touch with the top ten by Christmas he has to go. I have doubts over Bruce at the moment where none existed this time last season. Martin O'Neil is not the answer.
Mackeman - how would sacking Bruce and installing O Neill or say Moyes be a backward step for us? Or make us a laughing stock. We are already the butt of quite rightly some piss taking for 1.5 years under Bruce in derbies. Local spats are not the end game but for a struggling beleaguered manager going into a new campaign on the back of one of the worst home records in the division, he badly needed a win yesterday to get the fans back on side. It may be a fickle point but thats how football works and on such results managers are taken to the heart or spat out like moldy cheese. I'm afraid that for Bruce, the stench of rotting dairy products is very prevalent on the palette.
Thankfully Cest a managers future is not judged on Derbies alone. There's a whole load of other teams to be judged against, not to mention league position. As for our home form being poor. Yes it is. Our away form however is very good. It could be argued that the demands of our fans are transferring on to the pitch. We did look very nervous yesterday.
I do think the reason we are losing the derby is because Bruce is a Mag, but not for the same reasons cest believes. He is putting far too much pressure on the players in the run up to it, he wants to win it that badly that its having the opposite effect on the players when they go out and play. members were saying we should play 4-4-2, then they were saying, Ji and Wickham are not ready for the cauldren of a derby when he brought them on, so who the hell was he going to play alongside Gyan if he started 4-4-2? Last week we should have beat Liverpool at Anfield, but we got a credible draw there, they go to Arsenal yesterday and beat them 0-2, we played well in the 1st half against Newcastle, just couldnt find the finish, but if Gyans shot on the stroke of half time flew into the top corner, instead of brushing off the crossbar, we probably wouldnt be having this conversation. Its only been 2 games, 2 crap halfs, and 2 decent halfs, its far too early to be calling for his head, if by mid October and we have 4 points from 8-9 games, even i may change my tune, but until then, I say stick with him (MON has already turned us down once, so what makes you think he would come, and would Ellis back him in the transfer market, as he will want his own squad, I just dont think Ellis would). I know this post wont change anyones minds, but hey its a forum, everyone is entitled to an oppinion.
Why would we be a laughing stock? - well Cest do you honestly think that the media and critics would agree with Bruce being sacked - after the club giving him so much backing in the close season and only giving him 2 games - 1 of which was a credible draw at Anfield.
well his name was ****e yesterday, the club is not flushed with success, and his reputation has gone down the pan with many so its quite apt syd
I'd say he has to November. I always said this would be a defining season for Bruce as he has been backed by Quinn and Short yet we still seem to have a team with no left hand side and have not replaced Bent. I'm still angry about the negative tactics yesterday so I'm biting my lip a bit when talking about Bruce but one thing is for sure, yesterday was a bad day for Quinn's hopes of filling the stadium for every home game as IMO alot of the fans would of left the SOL with feelings of "same old same old".
The demands of our fans transferring on to the pitch made our team nervous. I take it that Newcastle fans aren't that demanding hence their continuous Derby success? It’s our fault lad! The daftest statement I have heard in the last 24 hours
Getting rid of SB now would be SAFC shooting ourselves in the head never mind foot!! For the past 2 seasons he has been the man in charge, transforming the squad (as much as anybody can) with the players HE wants and believes can do the job, and the "backroom staff" who share his view. Getting rid would cost a packet in compo and a whole lot more for the new man to spend bringing "his" players in. FFS, we're 2, yes 2, games into the season, the transfer window has NOT yet shut. OK, I'm feeling just as hurt (if not more) as the majority on here after that display against the inbred but please, PLEASE, PLEASE, think about the turmoil created by SB's sacking. COME ON - KTF
I can't believe some of the ****e that's being spouted on here today! Yes, I imagine it will be a horrible defeat to swallow, but it's one game FFS. I'd heard you played well last week against Liverpool, yet after defeat yesterday there a load of you calling for his head?? Get a ****ing grip lads. I'm no Steve Bruce lover, but I think you've beaten us at home something like once since 1980? What happened to the other managers who were defeated? Did you want them sacked after that game. Crazy man, crazy.
I'd like to know how Bruce went about convincing the players we shouldn't win the derby. I'm sure he'd have been knocked out cold by one of them. The reason we lost is because we lacked cutting edge. We need a goalscorer (could be Ji or Wickham, if it's neither then sign someone) and some pace in midfield. It's easy to say, but if we'd had Defoe up front with Gyan and Sessegnon on the right wing, i think we'd have killed the mags yesterday. The mags are such a bogey team for us, which is unfortunate considering who they are.
What a thoroughly depressing statement but sadly true. We are probably stuck with the hapless twat for this season unless we go on an early slump this time instead of his usual 2nd half one. With some luck and Bruce's knack for ****ing up in the cup games, maybe consecutive defeats in the next 3 or 4 games coupled with an early cup exit on the South Coast will shake the boardroom up and make his position untenable. A glimmer of light perhaps in a miserable dark time.
Did I say it was our fault? I said it could be argued. Thankfully, no one on here can have any direct effect on what happens on the pitch. I've often heard seasoned pro's saying that tension in the stands can have an adverse effect on the pitch. But hey, your rite. What do they know? Bloody Footballers.
