Fits in with his flailing hand style of running.

Still, good to see he has signed.

Raheem, how happy are you to have signed your new contract with Liverpool?

It's a relief really. I'm really happy to sign for such a big club. Just to get it over and done with is great.

What does it feel like, as an 18-year-old, to be committing your future to one of the biggest clubs in world football?

It's every 18-year-old's dream, especially coming up to Christmas and given that my birthday has just gone. I'm just really grateful to be at such a big club like this.

It's been a really big season for you, establishing yourself in the first team. What does it mean for you to pull on the red shirt on a matchday?

I think I can speak for every single player here - it's just an unbelievable feeling walking out at Anfield. Playing at such a big stadium with such a big atmosphere and with unbelievable fans is brilliant.

You've made fantastic progress this season but how hungry are you to continue to learn? There's still a lot more to be done isn't there?

There's a lot more to be done. I haven't begun yet, as the manager has said. It's just been good to get a few minutes on the pitch and hopefully I can kick on after the New Year and try to do my best for the team and the football club.

How has working with Brendan Rodgers been on and off the pitch?

I can't say much more about the guy than what has already been said - he's a brilliant manager. The way he speaks to both young and senior players, you have to really compliment him for that. He just treats everyone as one and that's really good to have at a football club.

There's been a lot of speculation in the press about your long-term future. Just how eager where you to commit yourself to Liverpool?

It's so frustrating that everyone, especially on Twitter, thinks you are not going to sign when you know deep down that you are going to sign sooner or later. So it was just really good to get it over and done with. I'm happy with that.

You've been at the club since 2010. How has the club helped your progress since then? How grateful are you for the help of the club?

Coming in as a 15-year-old was really hard but with the coaching staff we have at the Academy, it was made easier. I'm really grateful to the style of play that they play there as well. I have learned from that.

It's a long-term deal. How excited are you about what you and the club can achieve under Brendan Rodgers in the years to come?

In the New Year, you can expect more from Liverpool, especially when the manager gets his players in. We'll stride forward and hopefully do what we know we can do.

What really gives you the hunger to go on and make sure your future is long and successful?

Mainly my family, who have helped me through everything that we have gone through. I just want to try and make them proud of me and make them happy. Football is obviously one of the things that I enjoy, so I don't think that I will ever lose the hunger. I'll just keep striving to do better for both myself and the team.

Finally Raheem, a word on the supporters - they have been brilliant with you since you arrived in the team, what does that support mean to you?

It's been brilliant. Ever since I was given my chance, the fans have been great. Just to know that the fans are backing you is a good thing, so hopefully I can just show them on the pitch that I can give a bit back and show them what a decent player I am.

Sterling has a lot of aspects to his game that other youngsters dont have. Especially in his position.

As well as the pace, ability to run with the ball and take on a man he links up with team mates very well, has great passing and vision, he closes the ball down, tracks back, tackles and is a great team player.

Ok, his final ball needs work, his finishing, getting into scoring positions and some little things need to improve. But he is in a great place.

I think he could learn one really useful skill from watching Joe Cole v West Ham and Young Boys. Cole managed to slip out of the defenses view and sneak into the little space between the center back and full back completely unnoticed. It let to a great scoring chance both times. Who I ever plays in the wide forward roles could bag a lot of goals by adding that to their box of tricks.

He is a bit of a bellend at the moment but most 18 year old lads are bellends to be fair.

Brendan, how pleased are you to have signed Raheem Sterling on a new long-term deal?

It's great news for the football club and great news for Raheem. Everyone who has worked with him deserves a great amount of credit because he has been terrific this season and hopefully now he has signed, he has that security of knowing where his development is going to take place. And now he can push on and progress. It's great news for the club.

Is ensuring he fulfils his vast potential your number one priority?

Absolutely. That was always the case. [The contract] wasn't just about financial [terms], it was very important that his football plan was in place and he understood where he was going. He's 18 years of age and hopefully has many more years here at Liverpool. It's great for him and we're delighted that he has signed.

What does the deal say about the club's commitment to keeping their best players?

It says everything. He was a very coveted young player before he came in here and lots of great work has gone on even before he came up to work with me in the first team. This season he has been able to come up and he has taken his opportunity. What we are trying to create here is a core of top young talent alongside our top senior players. For us it's a great time for any young player to come into Liverpool because they know they are going to get an opportunity and they can develop very, very quickly. Young players will look at Raheem and see what he has achieved in his first six months and that will be a great draw for any young talent wanting to play at a big club.

He joins the likes of Luis Suarez, Martin Skrtel, Daniel Agger, Jonjo Shelvey and Suso - all players who have committed their future to the club in recent months. Does that tell us they have real belief in the long-term vision here?

It's very important that you have got players of that ilk. Like Suarez, Skrtel and Agger, who is arguably the best central-defender in world football. So for these guys to believe in what we are trying to achieve and be willing to stay with it because they are enjoying their work, I think that is a great credit to everyone at the football club. Hopefully in the coming years they can be a part of a successful team on the field.
