Fully agree. Like so many things, it seems it's become about money and nothing else as far as agents are concerned.

On another note, I do think Sterling played well earlier in the season, but as the team got better he seemed to get less influential.
I don't want us to lose our best players, but if his heart isn't in it, then there's no point in him sticking around.

Sterling is replaceable. Suarez wasn't. For that reason I won't really lose sleep if we lose him this summer

I'm surprised the club have gone that high to be honest, crazy stuff.

I seem to agree with the common consensus here........i.e. talented youngster still developing his game which has several weak spots in it. Greedy agent in
the background with £ signs in his eyes stirring the pot, creating a belief in Sterling that he is further into his career than he actually is.

Jeez, after this summer it will only be a couple of years before he's sitting down with his agent for the next one.
I would like him to stay because he can be a major part of the next 5 years at LFC,but if we got an offer of,say,£30m upwards :emoticon-0112-wonde I would probably
    take it and re-invest.

Even if he had a stretch out injured now we'd cope with out him.

But we would be loosing a high quality young player with super star potential.

Potential means nothing though jk, a few of our younger players had potential but never made it at the club in the long run, difference with Sterling he was thrown in at the deep end last season and has made some progress and he's a media darling and gets hyped up out of all proportion.

I think we should do our very best to keep him. He is a so and so just like Suarez was. But if we are to challenge for the top, he is the type of player we should tie with us for as long as possible.

Don't get me wrong, I think like most here that his agents are taking the mick. He is probably not worth £100k that he is refusing. But if you look round the team and you see how much the players who are inferior to him are being paid then you can see their point. His age shouldn't matter. He is already a father of 3 FFS ! And if he is good and he knows that at this point Liverpool need him more than he needs Liverpool, he is going to ask for more. Nothing to do with being a money grabber. More his worth as a player.

Renew is contract and give a very large salary. Then after a few years we could offload for the same price as Di Maria <ok>

Well Gerrard & Johnson, the 2 biggest earners, will be gone end of the season so he'll actually be one of the best along with Sturridge if he accepts anything over 100k.

Sterling says it`s not about money it`s about winning honours. This time last year he would have signed the contract without hesitation because he thought you were about to win the league and kick on, this season has been a slight setback.
There are now several things he needs to do
1 look at all the top teams in Europe who could pay him that wage and be realistic contenders for honours on a regular basis.
2 Look who he would need to be capable of pushing out of those teams as a starter.
3 Sign the contract he has been offered.

I thought this myth had been debunked long ago?
Not that the number of his progeny bears any relation to his maturity as a footballer or a human being.

If City Chelsea or the like come aknocking, Sterling is gone, he is not signing a new deal for that very reason, him and his agent are wanting to avoid a large release clause ect or anything else that may be in a new contract that may hinder a move.

Not sure who will come asking but he thinks he's too big a star for LFC, that's the impression I am getting,

Get as much as we can, we can do without this from a player who has only had half a good season to date.

We need a top striker more than anything else.

True, but he's never going to be a part of our long-term plans, even if he signs a new contract. can tell his heart isnt really with us tbh - and right now we would get a good price for him, another season next year like this season and he will just become the next Townsend. He could be a star or he could be anothe Walcott

I don't want to get on the lads back, I hope he stays but he's not so good that it's a Suarez type loss. He's looking to secure his long term finances and given the opportunity we'd probably all do the same (unless it was Liverpool, as fans it would be different to a degree). I think we should wait and see what happens and if he stays we'll all be happy if not then we can at least have fun burning some shirts.

Raheem Sterling: Liverpool forward turns down new deal
    By Natalie PirksBBC sports correspondent
Raheem Sterling has told BBC Sport he is not a "money-grabbing 20-year-old" after confirming he has turned down a new £100,000-a-week Liverpool deal.

He also says he will not discuss a new contract with the Reds until the summer, no matter how big a deal he might be offered in the meantime.

"It's not about the money at all," the England forward said.

"It's never been about money. I talk about winning trophies throughout my career. That's all I talk about."

He added: "I don't talk about how many cars I'm going to drive, how many houses I've got. I just purely want to be the best I can be."

Liverpool's last piece of silverware came in 2012, when they beat Cardiff on penalties to win the League Cup.

Sterling, who joined the Reds from QPR in 2010, did not become a first-team regular until the following season.

"I don't want to be perceived as a money-grabbing 20-year-old," said the player, who has two years left on a contract worth £35,000 a week.

    BBC sports correspondent Natalie Pirks:
"I've interviewed Raheem Sterling before and he comes across as quiet and considered, certainly shy around the television cameras. This time it was much the same, but I could sense palpable frustration at everything that has been said and written about him recently. More upsetting for him was the way some Liverpool fans now perceive him as a mercenary. He saw this interview as a chance to put the record straight."

"I just want to be seen as a kid who loves to play football and to do the best for the team."

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said in February that Sterling had been offered an "incredible deal for a young player" but now accepts talks will have to wait until the summer.

"I am sure it will be resolved and the concentration for Raheem is now on his football and it is clear the terms of when those talks will begin again," Rodgers said last month.

In the interview with the BBC, Sterling also said he would have accepted less than £100,000 a week had he been offered a new deal this time last year, when the Reds were chasing the Premier League title.

"If, at that point in time, I was offered a contract, I most definitely would have signed straight away, probably for far less money than being said now," he said. "I just think the timing was a bit off."

Sterling's future has been a source of almost endless speculation, with stories tipping him for a move to Manchester City, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

"I try to kill it off, but I don't think the public can see it that way," Sterling said. "I think they just see it as this 20-year-old boy being greedy.

"I just want to take the time to think about what I've achieved in my career so far, where I need to go and what I need to do to get better as a player."

Sterling said it was "quite flattering" to be linked with the Gunners, a team Liverpool visit in the Premier League on Saturday (kick-off 12:45 BST).

"I try to just block everything out and do well," said Sterling, who has 14 England caps.

"Next game is against Arsenal and I want to do my best. I won't be hiding. As I said, I'm just happy to be playing football."

In his interview, Sterling said one of his targets for the remainder of the season was to help Liverpool win the FA Cup.

If they beat Blackburn in a replay next week, the Reds will face Aston Villa in the semi-finals at Wembley on 19 April.

Raheem Sterling exclusively told the BBC that he has already turned down an £100,000-a-week offer

"I want to win something at the end of the season and the FA Cup's a great chance," Sterling said.

Liverpool, who finished second to Manchester City in the Premier League last season, have already had to deal with the loss of two key players.

Striker Luis Suarez joined Barcelona last summer, while influential captain Steven Gerrard will leave the club at the end of the season.

The potential departure of Sterling, who scored his first senior goal for England in a 4-0 win over Lithuania in a Euro 2016 qualifier on Friday, would be another big blow.

"I just want to focus on football and, when it gets to the end of the season, assess my position as a 20-year-old player playing in the Premier League," the Jamaican-born forward said.

If you want to hear more from Sterling, you can read some of his thoughts below or watch the embedded interview.

    On speaking out now:
"I keep hearing I've rejected all sorts of contracts. Me, the club and my reps have spoken about it and put talks on hold until end of season, so it's frustrating to hear the contract situation keep going on and on. I just wanted to get my point across on the whole thing."

Raheem Sterling - the extended interview

    On his future:
"In my head I've sat down and thought about it. But, at the end of the season, I just want to sit down with the club and my representatives. I will definitely give guarantees when the season has finished."

    On rejecting a £100,000-a-week deal:
"When I started out at QPR, I would never have dreamt of this day, to have such a huge offer in front of me. I'm really thankful. I just want to solely focus on my football right now. I want to win something at the end of the season and the FA Cup's a great chance."

    On accusations he is greedy:

Ashley Cole wasn't greedy either... quite the opposite... he used to actively spit out his food. More often than not it was just after being offered six figure contracts at Arsenal!

So he is holding out, presumably because he apparantly doesnt know if Liverpool will win things?
Kinda like the whole "Im not sure where the clubs heading"....who does that remind you of?
Think Sterling has been to the Wayne Rooney school of contract negotiation.

Dont panic if Sterling leaves, Rodgers still has Borini to come through.......

If you have forgotten what he looks like, here is Borini with Danny O'Donoghue. If you are still unsure who is who.....

One is a talentless buffoon who has been seen on TV a few times and has a strange accent.......the other is the lead singer from The Script

City need to increase their English quota and would pay a high price. Could be a big mistake going there to never play.
Chavs, would not suit his fluid style at all and would be a terrible mistake for a young English player that wants to evolve.
Arsenal, could be a good fit, but hardly a step up is it.
Abroad...Bayern is the only club I could stretch my imagination of him playing for with Ribery and Robben not getting any younger.

<peacedove>We may have to put our hands up at the end of he season and let Raheem Sterling go.
He refused the latest contract offer. You cannot keep a player that's not happy to play for you.
    Qustions.
    1. Should we sell him to our Premiership rivals?.
    2.Sell to foreign club only
    2.Sell for under £M50
    3.Sell for over £M50
