He was good for 30 mins against Bournemouth and appeared useless on the other 36 occasions and with no obvious improvement in 18 months it was good for Gills (and Payne) to see him on his way and wish him good luck. That leaves the hapless Oli. I wonder if Hessy has opened a bank account in Monaco yet? He deserves something if he can move this pair on.

Sad to see him leave but he was not for us, we have a lot of options at the moment, have to say 4 fit strikers is enough, so Oli to go then maybe just bring in one from non league as a future player, Collins or Newson.
Payne needed first team football and we couldn't offer it to him, when I checked Newsnow I thought that someone had finally swooped for J Payne, phew! It's a shame with Oli really, he was a livewire player when he first came to us. I think it's just being outshone by both Cody Mac and Simeon Jac on the goalscoring but he can still run and seems popular in the changing room... if only he still had a goal scoring touch!
I'm guessing the main reason that Stefan's contract was terminated instead of Oli's, is that the latter would have taken a lot more money to do so. Stefan was on a two year contract and would have been one of the lowest paid players at the club. It's a shame, some players with a mainly non-league heritage come into a league club and set the world alight, messrs. Jackson, Morrison, Mackail-Smith to name a few, Payne just didn't get the minutes on the pitch. Having said that, with the likes of Cody, Bayo, Kedwell and Kuffour he would have possibly expected to play second fiddle.
Must say I'm surprised he has moved on to another L2 club. His deal is only til' the season end so my expectations are they he make take another step down in the summer.
