Except that the point was not "on the link" - the link was another forum with loads of views - which one were you pointing us to? - the vote , the individual comments or what - I hesitate to start another ding dong but was just expressing the wish that I don't have to be re-directed around forums all the time when someone can just post the point they are making. Please though continue to post as you prefer - mine was only a personal view and deliberately made with a joke so as not to cause a fuss. It is not "lean" whatever that means don't you know - lean is making a succinct point
Oh dear, just read all the way through this thread and if I took on board all that has been expressed would be searching for the kitchen knife to slash my wrists. I did ask earlier in the week how much better than us were Palace, because from what I watched they were not that different. The first goal was very good, but on another day might have hit the corner flag. We still need to sort some things out from my seat in the LR. Too little variation in our play, but that seems to stem from mid-field. Too much hoping that Sordell will suddenly become a target man, whereas last season he was fed by DG. How much can a manager influence players when they are the ones that must make instant decisions during the game? He can bellow as much as he likes from the sideline, but it looks different when the ball is coming at you with a horrible great defender lumbering at you at the same time. SD will not be removed despite calls from some quarters. GT believes in giving someone three years to prove himself, and I don't think he has had that yet. As Leo says, what is the alternative? Put ourselves into greater debt and get someone who could be no better. Basset chose to get rid of many players and backroom staff, SD has to grapple with the same problems out of the situation that was not of his making.
What worries me is that after the horrible decision for Southampton's first penalty, the players heads seemd to drop straight away as if they were thinking "here we go again" which is very worrying at this stage of the season.
Don't mistake me - I don't think SD is doing a great job yet - from all the comment s he does seem to be a bit one dimensional and lacks confidence in himself to make changes - I just think he has to be given time - whether that is 3 years is a moot point but 2 to 3 months is ridiculous unless the Board want to say they think he is useless and will never make a manager - in whihc case their judgement was very badly flawed. Guys we are paying the price of previous mistakes that have left us with no resources together with the after effects of two managers who jumped ship unkindly to us - and those factors are probably connected too. A new manager could not be guaranteed to do better so lets get off SD's back and give him a chance. Which of you does your job well when there are people sniping at you over your every error?
Is it really so wrong to admit after 4 months that things haven't worked out as you expected? If you are sure the appointment you made hasn't worked out surely its best for everyone to act quickly. I don't think settling for 4th bottom is acceptable, Blackpool had a budget similar to ours and believed they could go up and they did. Everything about our approach seems negative and retrogressive this season from signings to the tactics and even the press conferences and the effect is evident on the pitch and in the dwindling attendances. Act quickly, bring back some positive energy, get the players and the fans believing again.
But native - can you really judge someone on their first 4 months in a position ( and from the beginning of August to now is surely only 2 and a half anyway). Do you give the next chap 3 months too? and then what? We have no money to make dramatic improvements.
Fair point Leo, in many lines of work you have a 3 month probation period and that is there to protect the employer if things with a new member of staff don't work out. We are speculating about what happens behind the scenes but from what I see and hear I just don't see things improving, lots of key players seem to be under performing and collectively they all just seem down. I can accept a lack of tactical acumen from a novice manager but I also question Dyche's ability to motivate his players. If the players are still behind him and the board are bought into a vision (not sure what that vision is though) then maybe he deserves a longer stint. If not surely it is better to make a change.
Funny you should mention Blackpool - one club that actually stuck by their manager, Simon Grayson, in similar circumstances to our present situation. They viewed his feat of saving their Championship status as a small miracle - remember the 1-1 draw against us in the last match of the season? And when he left there six months later, it was his choice, not theirs. As to the dwindling attendances, we're not alone there. A quick scan tells we're in the same boat as about 80% of the other clubs, even those currently performng better than us. I suspect the fall has more to do with the recession, government cut-backs and loss of incomes than anything else - not to mention the increasing cost of an overall 'matchday experience'.
I heard very little of the game on Wednesday, but it was suggested that there would be a pretty uncompromising team talk during the half time interval. From what I have seen since, the players admitted that they were given a bit of a roasting and from all reports we were better second half. This would suggest that SD can motivate the team, he just needs to do it before the game starts.
Lets hope so Frenchie for some quarters have heard that he has today and the posh game to turn the corner! I hope he does because it is easier for the club to carry on as is (and cheaper short term )!However if we lose next two games we have to accept that we have a problem ,then need to seek the best available solution! What that is we all have our own ideas, the man that counts is Baz! what he thinks is the best course of action and what fits in best with his aims and plans!
Ht in todays game a vast improvement seen Cmon lads keep this going .....warm up the humble pie!! I`m starving
I'm afraid the facts speak for themselves...lets get our blinkers off - there are currently NOT three worse teams in the league. We WILL be relegated if we dont change things
How long does it take to get a new manager. While we're waiting for someone to take the poisoned chalice, we would have no manager if we sack SD. And i'm pretty sure we'd have no assistant manager either! How is that going to help? Someone please enlighten me!
Keep the faith, how many times do I have to say that! He can turn it round, he just needs time. I know this business is results based but you also need the rub of the green!
