He wanted to sell anyway imo. A supporters group was never going to influence him. It’s just a convenient excuse.

This is his get out clause for being a) incompetent and b) not rich enough in his own right to put in the required investment.

This will be swallowed up by the national media and spun in a way which will follow us like a bad smell for years.

    It's absolute drivel isn't it.

On one hand he's saying " ... the club has become one of the very few in the EFL to be debt free and break even on an operational basis. With that stable base, the significant investment by FPP, and with the team now back in contention for promotion, the Board believes that Sunderland continues to head in the right direction."

Yet despite all that he throws it away because a bunch of lads spoke out of turn.

Never mind the 4000 who supported the club at Doncaster, or the 30,000 at home ...

... no, he just strops off because of some fanzines kicking off.

    FFS Donald, get a grip.

Back to being an “investment” again and not a loan

Exactly. At least be consistent with the terms.

Yes mate, but they're investing in Donald's vast expertise and vision ...

... and if can't be centre forward he's taking his ball home and FPP with it <doh>

Donald "Where's your trousers" is not going anywhere is he.

He is doing an Ashely, by saying the club is up for sale, but has no intention of selling, unless silly money is offered and he would be stupid not to take it.

Reads to me like he doesn't actually want to sell and that he's doing so reluctantly, hoping that if things get better on the pitch the fanzines might retract their statement.

The fanzines need to call the fire brigade and climb down off their high horse.

Reads to me as if he’s blaming the fans.

I don't think they've really helped much. Fawning all over him one minute, calling for his head the next.

Seems to me he's doing what he's always said he would - leaving once he'd out stayed his welcome.

It will be interesting to see what "sufficient funds" will be.

Stewart Donald commented: “We would like to place on record our thanks for the wonderful support we have received from SAFC’s phenomenal supporters. We would also like to reassure those loyal fans that we are placing sufficient funds in the club to support the manager as he seeks to improve the first team in the next few weeks. Finally, I just ask that fans now unite to support the players and the coaching staff.”

Compared to higher up in the same statement "and the January transfer window, in which he was expecting to invest significantly"
it's saying to me it'll be frees and loans that nobody else wants!
    Fans fault again :emoticon-0114-dull:

What he's saying is coming very close to bare faced lies.

He told the fanzines, the BBC, Ross, etc that FPP would be the new owners ...

... now he's claiming they were never interested.

As if American billionaires would want to invest in Donald, why?

And I'm sick to death of hearing about his 'vision' ...

... it's the same as everyone else, get promoted, invest and keep pushing on until we get back to where we were.

If anyone has a different vision I'll eat all my clothes then start on my shoes.

He's clearly out of his depth but making out its some grand conspiracy is ridiculous. He's got over-excited about stuff and let his mouth run away him and then, when things haven't worked out the way he expected, he's got embarrassed and back-tracked. He's enthusiastic and, like a lot of small timers who end up owning football clubs, quite vain; a combination that doesn't always result in sensible thought. None of that means that his intentions weren't good. Let's have a little perspective.

He obviously thought he could unite the supporters and harness their passion and power ...

    ... the way he's going I think he'll manage it <laugh>

I reckon he definitely did think that. He's cocking it up now though. All the stirring from the fanzines etc and jumping on this statement as they have done this morning won't improve anything.
