Whoa whoa there, Nutty, that'a bit harsh. Did I slate your personal ideas? NO. I am allowed to have mine. My football knowledge is fine. I don't just watch the PL, I try to watch as much football as I can from all over the world. I pay enough in satellite fees to do it! <eek>:)

All season, we've had problems attacking. And that is not just because we had poor strikers - we played with a bit more of a defensive formation. I'm trying to push us forward in mine. That's all. Team Defense is what I would play. If, and I mean IF, MH is able to get the fitness levels of our players to a higher level, then EVERYBODY can get back and play defense. I personally don't like the idea of "defensive cover" because it sounds like the front 3 or 4 players don't even have to come back and "cover" and it also makes it sound like that defensive cover man will hang back and sit there more at the back than go forward. We have a very good defense this season, actually. We haven't really let too many goals in. Yes we've had a couple hiccups, against Fulham, for example, but overall we've held our own, we've only been a goal away from getting a point in so many matches. So, we need to score. If the front 3 can control the ball better between them, then the wingers are there to spin off: and if you're worried about defensive cover - well then you still have a CM there right behind the attack. The back 4 are there - the Back 4. Let the forward 5 attack. And then rotate. If we're fit, we can all get back.

Yappy, of course you are entitled to your opinion, everybody is. It's just that i feel your opinion here is pants. Look at the great football teams of the modern era, they all had at least one player protecting the back 4. Many tems now employ two in a 4-2-3-1 system. Think of the Alonso, Viera, Keane, Barry, Parker etc etc. The Prem is incredibly fast. Most Prem teams are very well organised and if you look at most Prem matches the majority of goals are scored through quick counter attacks. If a team does not have at least one midfielder who sits to protect the back four, then they generally are very vunerable to counter. You're not the only one with extensive knowledge of European and World football mate. As i said, you are entitled to your opinion, keep posting, but your formation is pants and would be easily beaten. You are obviously entitled to disagree with me.

At the end of the day MH will play 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1. He likes the two solid banks of four and won't try the variations we have seen under Warnock. The players he has brought in underline that outlook so I can't see anything other than the formations we have seen in the two PL matches he's been in charge of.
