Getting messy when ****e like this is getting dragged into trade proposals. The only way we’re getting a deal is if Starmer bends over, no way they’re going to back down. They clearly hate one another and the US are the much bigger fish.

Agree, it's ****e. None news. Best ignored.

Any country having a trade surplus with the USA needs to readjust their trading model fast.

If only we were a member of the largest trading bloc in the world with 27 members and a GDP of $15.5tn to soften the blow :emoticon-0112-wonde

I believe once usa plays it's hand over Ukraine, Europe will have to rebuild its defences together, including Canada. Should create some trade agreements between the UK and Europe

We need to become less dependent on the usa (as does the rest of the world). Going to be an interesting few months.

100% this, we are watching America sleep walk into self destruct mode. We should be focusing on trade deals with the EU and Asian markets primarily.

I think the way he’s treating the world and isolating America , anti USA feeling will be felt by their tourists, business travellers , sports people etc . Can see a lot of people turning against him but he could have destroyed the country by then

It's only a small example but I was seriously looking at Disneyland next year before the kids get too old. Won't go near the US as long as these muppets are in charge...and I think a lot are feeling the same way.

Looking like the Dream Team got off lightly, but shares are sliding in Asian markets, London to open at 8:20... sea of red predicting a fall of 1.5 to 2%. American markets later today. Gold and Swiss Franc doing well... bumpy few days ahead...

If we were still in the EU we would’ve got higher tariffs, the irony! :emoticon-0102-bigsm Going to be a bumpy few days for sure, it’s been f**king bumpy since he came in. If anyone wants to buy into the S&P I’d hedge my bets that now is the time, down over 10% since Feb.

If we'd still been in the EU we wouldn't have lost 4% GDP or summat <laugh>

Not sure mind, dropped at first but last I saw it was 2.2% in 2023 and closing.. over the last few years we’d outperformed the major EU zone nations considerably until Q3 last year I think it was. Musk will be sitting there thinking f**k me I hope they don’t retaliate with bigger tariffs on American cars nobody will buy them :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I watched Trump last night. Absolutely clueless and a terrible narrative to spin. Some of his language is abhorrent. He should be nowhere near the presidency. These tariffs are an utter disaster, absolutely horrendous for everyone, including America.

I like the cut of Keir's jib so far on this one. Some of the other world leaders are stoking the fire. Keir is cool and calm which is good. Whether he is up to handling Trump I dont know, but if he can let the negotiators work behind closed doors, and keep Trump and Vance at the end of a smile and some gracious words, he may yet get us on a better keel. 10% is just the lesser of all bad deals. It is not sustainable, and our car industry is in a bad place.

Trump seems to want an isolationist world. Everyone on their own. That is the worst of all outcomes for a tiny island like us. We need to survive Trump, by playing to his ego, and hope once he is gone decent American values return.

Hopefully Trump's policies will go some way towards reducing globalisation, which,in my view, has made the rich richer and the poor poorer.

He knows they hold the cards unfortunately, it’s bully boy tactics. The Americans will be lapping it up, they love this us v the world idea. They see it as putting the needs of the USA first. The problem we have in the UK is that we’ve been represented by spineless twats every time we’re at the table. Happened with the EU and now it’s happening again. These other world leaders are ruthless, we are not.
