Good lad. However Brexit has fckd our economy and given us record immigration so well done sir kier for getting another win.
These deals and similar would have been available before Sir Kier got in, so it was the Tories that ****ed the economy and allowed Illegal immigrants to pour in. So well done Brexit and Sir Kier.
Not so sure but well done Sir Kier and he will hopefully have a disinfectant shower tonight when the thin skinned orange mess goes. Looking forward to the the investment coming to SE Northumberland which is vitally needed since all European monies such as ERDF and ESF have gone thanks to Farage, Johnson and Gove.
I agree, but I was saying our % increase has risen fastest. That % increase has not delivered the same increase in outcomes because our leaders don't know how to deliver value for money. Wasteful is not even close.
If you are thinking about HS2 (generally) and paying £100m for some bat tunnel spot on. But I think earlier on this forum I posted some research on the outcomes of Thatchers privatisation, namely if you sell the public's monopoly businesses to robber barons, don't be surprised if they rob you and give crap service and high prices. Then there is the NHS, which by and large is paid for by taxation. There is quite a lot of research that suggests the 'bang for your bucks' is better than an insurance based system. Simply because in the NHS you get the treatment you need, in an insurance based system you get the treatments covered by insurance whether you need them or not..ie making a profit It could be argued that if our taxes were hypothecated we are already paying insurance. F agash argues for an insurance based system so USA companies can move in and takeover, with him getting a share of the profits no doubt. However you can compare self -employed workers with say council workers doing the same job... I could give a guess who would be putting more graft in.
Under Labour Net Migration surged in the late 1990's then boomed again from 2020 onwards. So there's a 30 year history of steady increases. Doubt Mr NF , if elected , has the answer . What did he say recently ? Target 600,000 reduction but over 5 years ? So 120,000 a year , that's just a target which could easily fail . Official website below. See Fig 1.1 https://assets.publishing.service.g...immigration__emigration_and_net_migration.svg https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...net-migration/net-migration-report-accessible Hardly makes any difference who's in power . There's a budget deficit which never gets balanced. The national debt is climbing especially since the banking crisis 2008 and pandemic 2020. Those two events added £500bn to the national debt . Welfare budget just keeps heading up together with NHS and now defence budget. How do we sort it out ? Well cuts but which party is bold enough to do it ? None , that's why we've had tinkering with winter fuel allowance . Never made any difference. Need a team of people from all backgrounds to go into every government department and make some genuine savings. Why have Netflix in the house if you're not watching it. ? Hard to take but drastic action is needed to level up a bit. Taxing the rich wouldn't level it anyway . We're talking over £100bn a year needed.
However you can compare self -employed workers with say council workers doing the same job... I could give a guess who would be putting more graft in.[/QUOTE] This is what I dispair about political class esp lab and unions, the council workers could be putting in more graft simply because of inefficient working practices, ie who is working harder, a man digging a hole with a pick and shovel or a mechanical digger, obviously the one with pick and shovel. They what went wrong with Cameron and austerity, they were scared of senior CS and Unions so allowed them to just cut jobs without prod improvements
If you read back Gordon you will see Northern came in with the name-calling, so i reciprocated. As he hates anything to do with alternate view points, and it is only him, but i have just seen your intervention, as i had already left the thread for a while to let him cool down.
Not as simple as that. Gas power plants must be paid to be on standby for when the wind falls. Billions a year, on the bills. Wind producers are regularly paid not to produce, as it will unbalance the grid. Billions a year on the bills. We import gas at a premium now, instead of using our own. The same for oil. Billions a year on the bills. We import thousands of tons of biomass every year. Very expensive stuff, and not that clean at all. Billions a year. In the bills. We now regularly import electricity from Norway and Europe, almost always fifteen percent, usually nearer twenty five per cent. Billions a year. On the bills. That is why energy is so expensive here. It is a chaotic, completely mad and ruinously expensive way to provide energy. No country in the world does this. They all have much cheaper energy, whether it is privately owned, which is mostly the case, or a mix.
Whatever the UK does or does not do with fossil fuels will make no possible detectable difference to the atmosphere, which covers the entire globe surprisingly enough.
I get the sense that we have grown a society in the modern day that expects everything done for them by government and its agencies. I am happy to accused of ageisism but the younger generations can appear entitled. Maybe they need a kick up the arse. It is a generalisation but I stand by it. Case study in point. My good lady is a reception class teacher. I would argue we live in an affluent area. She has spent a class session today teaching kids to put their own coats own. Because they didnt know how to. Imagine being a parent and sending your child to school with such a low skill level. It would have been an embarassment in my day. Now it seems more than a minority of parents arent willing to be parents. Bottom line, society is dead. As I know it. Too many people want public services to do the hard yards for them. Laziness has become a watchword for mot my responsibility.
