1. Morris - for a great double-save. 2. Max Clark - for a well taken goal. 3. Gale ( just ahead of Gbode. ) - both worked hard.. Gale very solid. Gills deserved at least a point from this game. Gills were quite relaxed and comfortable in defence --- perhaps a little too relaxed when they failed to track the Stanley scorer...... Again, the real problem is in creating clear cut chances.... Overall, our play is too slow, too often, to put ourselves in promising situations...This lack of 'dynamics' and quality, needs to be addressed for next season - otherwise we'll have another low-scoring and disappointing year.
1. Morris - Because the double save was key 2. MacKenzie - Playing in a 2 man midfield on his own and having to carry Little around for 90 minutes 3. Morgan - Disappeared at times, but still looked our most likely source of a creative spark. Lots of huff and puff amongst the rest but the lack of quality is alarming. We scored with our only shot on target but despite that a draw was the least we deserved. As for Accrington having endured 180 minutes of what they call football this season, I can safely say that their particular brand of anti-football could put people off forever, fortunately for them another generous ref allowed them to get away with most of their dirty tricks. It really is a shame that they like us will probably still be in this league next season, and I suppose we all have to endure another 180 mins of them avoiding actually playing football.
The double save was, without a doubt saving us from a 2-0 loss and kept us in the game. We did what we could, YESSSS we scored 1 goal. We let them in against the run, Morris had no chance. I thought the first half was boring; that's all I watched after they took the lead. Gbode is getting stronger and better, hopefully, we can keep him for at least one more season, as to Gayle as well. We need to keep them as long as possible and add to the strength. The Chelsea lonee again is getting stronger. Maybe an extension to the contract. Now to Little????? exactly little you know what I mean. Dack has not been on the bench for 2 matches. At last, the Gaffer, like me, has seen enough. Or is he injured again??? Now with a game in hand on 4 of the teams below us we need a result against Walsall. Then Harrogate the week after. Need this as a win. The following fixtures are all tough. Colchester, Salford and Chesterfield, all with a chance of the playoffs. Then MK Dons another relegation battle, then Cheltenham, who have play-off ambitions. Then, home to hopeful automatic promotional AFC. Then the end of the month at home to!!!!!! Swine Town. A very busy April Last game of the season, we could upset the playoffs, away to Port Vale. 10 games left and 12 points from relegation. Fingers crossed we make it.
Don't complain about the ref ! If you look at the build-up to Clark's goal, you'll see Ehmer give a defender an almighty shove - nothing short of a full-blown assault.... it prevented the defender from attempting a block on Clark's effort.... It was an awful bit of work by the officials. https://www.skysports.com/football/...-stanley-1-1-gillingham-league-two-highlights
Don't know what we'll do when Morris eventually hangs up his gloves, I do admire his ability every game. I don't know what was going on with Ehmer, he seemed more interested in the player on the deck than the goal - but I'll not knock him for it, sometimes we've needed to show a bit of stubborn aggression, too many teams have been taking the p out of us this season for once it went our way. Well done to Clark btw.
If that was another team, he'd be applauded for his s**thousery. With our club, his character is questioned. If that had been Masterson, or Ogie, or Smith, or Gale people would be lapping it up as great game management.
I agree. I've said a few times this season and within these threads, that we keep allowing ourselves to be bullied. This is L2, we have to accept the tone of most visiting teams, we don't have to agree with it, but it's still going to happen...the shirt pulling, the arm round the neck...and let's rewind a season to when the Watford loaneee was butchered off the pitch - I was absolutely furious with the team that day for allowing it to happen, no way would past teams have allowed that. So forward to now, somone tries to get a bit smart with us again and Ehmer takes him out, no complaints from me....although I still would have liked him to celebrate the goal. Just as a quick mention it's a little quality I've noticed with Gbode, he don't take any of this nonsense either, so it sort of attracted me to him straight away, sometimes you just got to stick up for yourself...Charlie Lee would have known how to deal with them in this league, and I didn't care how many bookings he got, pitbull as I use to call him in admiration.
I thought it was great, off all the teams we could score a goal that clearly should have been disallowed against Accrington would be my choice no one we have played this season has played more 'anti' football in their matches against us than they have, and but for Ehmers 'foul' they may well have got the full 6 pts off us.
