<diva>There is a debate on B&A about people standing up in all seater stadiums. This of course blocks the view of people not only behind but from other angles. I know in an ideal world we would all have stadiums with a certain amount of terracing and everyone would be happy. But when it is all seater the rules are sit down and in my opinion people should abide by these rules or get tickets for the back and not get in anyones way. Last season at Port vale myself , my daughter and our friends chose our seats about half way up and were quite happy sat there for an hour before kickoff only for about a dozen young men in fancy dress to turn up 2 minutes after k/o, come in and stood infront of us. I shouted and told them to sit down. We ended up having to move as they just smirked at me. I think this is inconsiderate to virtually everyone else who abides by the rules. I am not against standing if it is not causing an inconvinience to others but there seems to be a certain few who seem to do it to make a point. What do you people on here think? Posters from other clubs do you have this problem?
 
I remember at our last Wembley visit a bloke 8-10 rows in front of us would stand up when anything positive started to happen in the oppositon half. He would also do this to shout at Chris Humpreys (?) for not trying hard enough whenever he got the ball. Naturally this caused the two people behind him, the four people behind that, the eight people ... and so on, all to stand up as they couldn't see. I understand if we score or if the ball is out of action in some way but to do it repeatedly for little reason spoils it for others behind them. I have a season ticket in the south stand, on the back row, but near to the isle which means that me and my mates do get to have some view as the isle provides a clear gap. The best solution is to have a designated terrace area that is seperate to the other seating area.
 
given my size i would not be in anyones way if i was to stand up, but i agree it is a nuisance if your view is obstructed, seats are for sitting in. but i like your idea of some terracing and seats. i will offer to hold your coat when you suggest it to the council
 
ah the old arguement rears up again,i am lucky we have a terrace at wycombe and long may that continue i dont want to sit down,i got thrown out at stockport away a couple of seasons back for standing up ,i was in the last row at the back the only thing behind me was a brick wall and the stewards picked on me, when county fans in the same stand were all standing up,one law for home fans one for away fans.the best suggestion would be the back six rows of seating should be for the singers and those who want to stand then there wouldnt be a problem.
 
Fair solution to the problem Rocky. Would also encourage people in front to join in the probable singing coming from the back few rows. I used to be quite happy standing at the old meadow, but don't mind the seating we have now.
 
Difficult one really. The standing uppers say that they should be able to use the back few rows in the seats to stand, but these few rows generally correspond to the best view of the pitch. Why should those standing have "the best seats in the house"?

Fortunately for away travel in League 2 there is often a choice between terracing and seating. If you don't like sitting as an away supporter don't go to places like Gillingham, Oxford etc. (and I have seen the reverse argument used for those who don't like standing if no seats are available)
 
i am old school mate i like the terrace but i also recognise the need for seating as well.surely the best option would be terrace at both ends of the ground and seating in the rest
 
I am definitely OLD OLD school and done my share of terracing including often being swept off my feet with crowd surges (There but for the grace of god etc). Those things would not happen in this day and age, accepted.

Wycombe has one of the best away ends which can encompass all preferences even though all seated.
 
surely as a paying customer all fans should have a choice of sitting or standing,but ultimately its whether the stewards use common sense or go heavy handed with fans that make the difference.norwich away and leeds away were 2 of the worst for making you sit down and no compromise at all.football as a fan should be about the whole experience of visiting different grounds feeling safe and having a good day out thats why i prefer the lower leagues where you mostly get treated like human beings and you can have a laugh with the stewards.millwall despite their reputation was one of the best grounds to visit as an away fan the stewards were very good not heavy handed and made the day much better by leaving us fans alone.
 
Our stewards were quite strict at the start of our new stadium, and are generally strict in certain areas of the ground now. They do admittedly 'not try very hard' at getting our noisy section to sit or soem of the away fans too.
 
This argument does keep coming back! It's only really a problem when (as at Arsenal and Wembley) you get no choice in seat allocation and the sections are full. Then I would expect everyone to respect their fellow fans, a good many of whom will struggle to stand for 2 hours or be too small to see if everyone's standing. The "spoiling" of a game for someone who prefers to stand having to sit is nowhere near as great as it is for someone who doesn't have the choice and can't see the game they've paid to watch.

Beyond that, I've no problem with people standing if they're not blocking anyone else. Over the years, I've stood far more often than I've sat but, if I'm in a seat, I'd rather just stand when there's some excitement, not for the whole match! [Especially when the seats are as comfy as Arsenal's!]
 
It's a no brainer for me. I rarely sit down as it gets me too relaxed- can't be avin that now! In the noisy end it's worked itself out- those who want to stand do further back and the sitters go at the front. Simple, really
 
<diva>When I go to the likes of Burton, Morecambe, Aldershot and Torquay I stand in the terraces but when I sit in all seater stadiums I don't expect people to stand in front of me and have no problem telling them. Its not my fault its not a terrace , these people should go and stand at the back.
 
Personally, I would like to see a terrace return, maybe at the North Stand, with away supporters moved to the north end of the Wycherley stand. However how many would use it, and would it look empty compared to the rest of the ground. A few years ago, at Ibrox they converted a seating area in the main stand back to terracing. This held about 1000 supporters. The atmosphere was great and worked because the rest of the ground was full. I don't know if this still exists.
 
The ultimate thing is a singing/terrace behind the home goal, but they have already said they won't move existing season ticket holders.
 
i can verify the towns stewards are strict and rightly so especially when an old reprobate from devon walked out from the bar with a half pint to view the pitch. they were doing their job and i withdrew to the bar and admired the pitch and dancing waters after extinguishing my drink. what a lovely stadium and such an excellent view of that game, shrews v stockport. roll on shrews v barnet. floreat salopia
