There was much noise made prior to the South Africa World Cup but it passed off safely and I guess the same will happen for the 4 weeks here with heavy police precence and show. However, its the under-lying hatred and violence that UEFA should be ashamed of. They have given this tournament to two third world countries for attitude and tolerance but then wouldnt come on Panorama and explain themselves. The SA World Cup was abysmal. I hope this shambles is too and Platini is ousted along with his comrade in shame Blatter.
Aye Cest but in the case of South Africa the noise was made about it's appaling crime rate. Hooligan groups will always be wanting to have rucks with one another but these lads wont give two hoots even if you have your bairns with you. The police over there just let them get on with it, or so it seems.
Probably meet you over there Kiwi!! Used to live there, and am trying desperately to get work to send me there... it is however for some unknown reason one of the top places to get posted and positions rarely come up However, it is the land of football, and I want to get over there for the world cup! Good thing I can speak the lingo aswell!
Brazil is fine so long as you don't wonder into the poorer areas in places like San Paulo. I've got friends in Franca, Rio & San Paulo plus contacts elsewhere all sorted depending on the draw. The hotels are cheap & the drink even less
If soimeone gets seriously injured or killed at the hands of these people, who would be held accountable?, would it be the people who made this crazy decision to hold the finals in these despot countries?
The frightening thing for me was the lack of any police response to the violence within the stadium...Onesection of footage showed a group of Asians being viciously attacked by their own supporters simply for being Asian, despite being in the family section of the ground..They took a hell of a beating before eventually a couple of stewards stepped in to help. However, no police were to be seen, and the attackers walked away without any apparent fear of arrest. Even after the event the Asians who had been attacked were just left on their own when they had to leave the stadium...It was bloody awful to watch..
billy sky did the same kind of report a few weeks and i said then i think anyone going is mad and anyone who is going and is black is susidal im actually stared for the reporters
They say that a Ref can stop the game if racism occurs, I hope one of them has the bottle to do it. The Cheif of Police from Warsaw(?) was a fookin loon, when asked about the Nazi salutes he looked away from the camera and said something along the lines of 'no they were waving at the opposition supporters'. Seems like the Police force is a hotbed of rightwing extremism. If I was black I'd be taking Sol's advice. Keep Ryan Noble well away!! as there is going to be anyway
Stadio Comunale in Turin during England’s (surprise surprise) game against Belgium in the group stages of Euro 1980 The Italian police used tear gas grenades to disperse the English hooligans in the terraces, but obviously didn’t consider that the noxious cloud may affect the game – with play having to be stopped for a considerable amount of time while both sets of players attempted to douse their burning corneas… The game eventually ended 1-1, with Belgium then going on an incredible run to the final of the eight-team tournament, only to lose out to West Germany at the final gate; Horst Hrubesch scoring twice (including an 88th-minute winner) in a 2-1 victory at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
I'm so glad it isn't like that in England! Take us and Newcastle, there is a rivalry but its nothing like that, if I lived in Poland, Ukraine, Russia etc. I don't think I would go to a game because of fear I would get a good kick in or get stabbed. After what Hitler did in the second world war to that part of the world and how those people go on in that documentary is totally shocking, I just dont get it at all. I hope all of this is totally over the top and the Euro's run smoothly but if anything does happen in the ground then I hope the referee is big enough to get the game stopped. Those two clowns Platini and Blater need something to rock the world of football before things change at the top and maybe a ref calling a game off at a huge tournament like this would go someway to doing that. I hope these nutters who start kicking off at the Euro's get a good hiding
Euro 2012 co-hosts Ukraine has hit back after former England defender Sol Campbell warned fans not to travel to the tournament next month. In a BBC Panorama programme, Campbell advised supporters to stay at home because of the threat of racism and violence. But Ukraine's Euro 2012 director Markian Lubkivsky said Campbell's remarks were "insolent". "We are getting ready for the great football festival," Lubkivsky said. "To be honest, from the Uefa point of view, I don't see any dangers for citizens of different nationalities to stay in Ukraine." Continue reading the main story “ The BBC documentary investigated violence and racism at football matches in Ukraine and Poland. Theo Walcott's family have revealed they will not be travelling to the tournament because of their concerns about racism. And Campbell believes Uefa should not have chosen the countries as hosts of such a prestigious event in the first place. "I think that they were wrong, because what they should say is that 'if you want this tournament, you sort your problems out'," said the former Arsenal and Tottenham player. But Lubkivsky said visiting fans to Ukraine had nothing to worry about. He said: "If the player Campbell has such a vision, than it is his own point of view, and it can not be projected for the whole country. "His statement is simply insolent for us and we do not understand the aim of it." Former Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko says there is "no real problem" with racism in Ukraine. And Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Voloshyn said fans had nothing to fear. "Nazi symbols can be seen at ... any match in England, but does it mean that fans should not come to London for the Olympics?," he said.
