The one thing that the previous set of Shermans had right, was the idea that they had to take a much bigger slice of the average punters matchday pound. As on top of the ticket price plenty of punters will spend maybe £20-30+ on drinks and food, before and after the game. A huge slice of this is lost to local alehouses, takeaways etc, so the idea of a 'football village' housing everything that the matchgoer would want, but with the club being the beneficiary of the revenue was a sound one. Personally I've never understood why clubs don't make their concourses into much more customer friendly environments, with pub style areas with seating and fast food outlets, thus enticing people to come in earlier and enjoy their pre-match meal / drinks at the ground.
At one point they were still talking about a Supporters Village that ran through the park from Anfield to Goodison. What happened to that proposal?
It was part of the football quadrant idea, that it was hoped could be possibly be added to the North Liverpool regeneration project (project Jennifer) as the area qualifies for EU funding as a deprived area. The idea was to make the area a football destination apart from just matchdays, so museums, football related activities etc supported by an infrastructure of shops, bars, restaurants and a hotel slapped onto the back of Goodison. It never really got off the ground due to the uncertainty about the future plans of both clubs.
