No reason why other stands can't be expanded later Seems like a sensible move, better than a new stadium and I trust the owners are happy it makes financial sense
I think it will be difficult to expand the KOP. Unless we make it go more back? or make the pitch wider? Doesnt seem reasonable to me.
It's not how big the stadium is, it's about how you pack it in and use it over and over again until the opposition screams.
''The upgrade will be completed in 2 phases. Phase 1 will see the Main Stand increased to a three tiered, 20,000 seat stand taking the capacity to 54,000 while also making it the biggest stand in the stadium. Phase 2 expand upon the Anfield Road End to bring the total capacity to over 58,000 spectators.''
Seems like a hell of a lot of hassle for an extra 12, 000 seats Must be **** loads of corporate boxes going in slightly disappointed tbh, I knew we were looking at around 60k, but Spurs new stadium is about the same too (58k), surely we 'd pack a bigger stadium? 70-80? imagine the cauldron atmosphere. I guess this was always going to be the downside to an Anfield refurb/extension vs new ground
good thing about this is it has no disruption while building is taking place on the current capacity. i should imagine some time in the future if need be it will, didnt utd expand over time as the need for it increased?
I was hoping the stadium would be larger but I am grateful that it's finally happening now. Apparently Dunkin Donuts were interested in naming rights but thankfully, we declined. FSG aren't interested in naming rights for the stadium but I heard that Carlsberg are willing to spend big on naming rights for the stand.
i was until i saw jimmys post, fecking dunkin doughnuts ffs. so i guess the owners will do things sensibly and not have silly ones and chase the money.
Yep - I also think Ayre mentioned it previously that we do not need to sell the naming rights in order to fund the expansion.
The houses around the ground that needed to be bought have now been bought! As confirmed today. Great news!
But the Council have already said that they are prepared to use their Compulsory Purchase powers if needs be to ensure that the plans go through.
When I get home I'll dig out a source. Announced on twitter. On my ****ty phone. But the info was tweated today.
