Building a new and much bigger stadium will not only mean a major investment for the new owner but also finding the right place to do so. Talking about an average attendance of 25000 would mean an increase of around 70% and I did not find any surveys indicating that this is going to happen. I do expect that prices will stay high which means that new "Supporters" will have to have some money in their pockets. I do not mean it is impossible but would be very keen to see some figures.
What capacity would we require the stadium go be? There was plans at one stage to build a new stadium in Hillingdon, is that not a possibility? Would make sense to my mind as lots of fans out that way.
No need to build a new stadium. Once we recruit the Fulham & Brentford converts and all the other inevitable 'Johnny come latelys ' we can move into Wembley. It's only 5 miles away and after all , Queens Park play in the Scottish national stadium. Queens Park Rangers can play in ours.....Nice!
A new stadium would also mean an increase of ticket prices. I recall many people being frustrated about the current rise. At the end we will become another Chelsea then ?
I didn't see anything new in Fernades' words to make me think anything has changed. It's obvious to all concerned that a bigger ground is highly desirable as part of any growth plan but not at all obvious how it would be funded. As I recall LBH&F have already barred the conversion of Loftus Road for housing purposes which means the sell-on value is virtually non-existent. Also the BBC site is absolutely prime territory for housing so the asking price would be astronomical. So we are talking about funding a new football ground in the most up-and-coming part of Central London with no equity to get started. This is why Tony says that the key decisions are with the council. I wonder if this impasse is part of the reason why Ecclestone decided to walk away?
I think 2 years stability in the prem before we can look at a new ground. As to size of the ground - Build it and they will come.
Aah - the old "attendance boosted by the ghosts of fans long since departed" ploy. I like your thinking......
There is a covenant on the ownership of the Scrubs that states it is not to be developed upon, goes back over 100 years when it was handed over to the public. That's why they never built a road from East Acton to Scrubs Lane. The Linford Christie stadium is very much an outside bet, not enough public access and parking, bit of a schlepp from the nearest Tube. At least it would be close to Hammersmith Hospital for anyone getting hacked down by Joey Barton (if rumours that we are getting him are to be believed) and he can visit the family in the prison next door too!!!
a move and new stadium in newport , isle of wight , would suit me and a few others , no professional clubs on the island . ah well we can all dream .
Arsenal and Spurs ticket prices are higher than ours by a fair way, we were on par with West Ham up until this season
