With this being close to home, the game in question being Lincoln vs Bradford. Another anecdote from the game I mentioned above at the Dell in 1997. The lads I was with in the Lincoln Supporters bit were amazed to see the wooden terracing there and the corrigated sides of the stand. The corrigated iron was loose and the fans were using it as a makeshift ultra loud metronome ;) My mates said 'I thought stands like this were banned after Bradford.

I replied its not like this the other side where I normally sit ;) My Uncle (another Saints fan living in South Wonston said 'My god this is crap, no wonder away fans are so fierce. lol

I loved the Dell but things have to move on ;) especially with the alley way behind that stand with open top brick urinals. lol

To be fair, the only grounds I've been to are St Mary's, Fratton Park (too young to remember it), Wembley, The Emirates and Selhurst Park. When you compare Selhurst with St Mary's, Wembley and Emirates there's no doubt which kind I'd rather have (not that St Mary's has anything on the latter two, oh well)

I'm not really one for visiting other grounds, but I did visit Home Park for the first time last season (when we effectively clinched promotion) and whilst I did quite like it, it certainly made me appreciate St Marys.

Quality. I have a bit of a fetish for distinct/older grounds - they kind of make me nostalgic for an era I'm just too young to have experienced. As lovely as St Mary's is, it does seem slightly sanitised and a bit too comfortable compared to some of the older grounds I've watched Saints at like Yeovil, Carlisle and Hartlepool.
There's something quite special about standing on an uncovered terrace at a poky ground surrounded by rows of terraced houses that can't be relived when sitting down with a coffee at a ground in an edge-of-city retail park.

Here's a link to pictures of grounds that are no more (The Dell included): http://www.oldgrounds.co.uk/

I agree there is no comparison between standing in driving rain and sitting in comfort in a nice stadium. I know which I prefer.

LOL some freakish stuff there. That South African multi sports venue is actually creepy; fit for maybe a Scientology rally, rather than sport though.

Saw this the other day after reading about Wolves current rather meagre yet expensive redevelopment... http://stadiumporn.com/lost-plans-molineux-wolverhampton-england/ the existing Molineux was a touch weird back then as well.

My ex used to talk about men doing a bloke's-look**, as opposed to doing a proper-look. I have a feeling your cannot find one anywhere, fell into the former category. ;)

**a bloke's look is a quick glance over the shoulder in the immediate vicinity, followed by the declaration that, I can't find it anywhere..! :D
