Putting forward £50 for upwards of a two year wait, with no possibility of a refund if you change your mind. Think its pushing it a bit far, and its taking the piss a little bit, what happens if someone's circumstances changes in two years ? They have lost this money then as they can't go ahead. Its a scam in all but name.
Didn't they look at the Felindre site at one time for a new stadium. That would still be an option, but parking could well be an issue. Access would be good though.
Felindre is out, there is next to zero chance that the Council or the Welsh Government will allow that. Also as the Council is firmly against more out of town retail parks because of the impact it has elsewhere, the club won't be able to attract retailers there, and these kind of ventures must have other backers of these sorts to make viable. I would agree with you Jäger. The cost of a new build - even if a suitable site could be found - would be "prohibitive". There are 40 years left on the current lease - same for the Ospreys - at the Liberty.
A pipe dream is thinking we can move up a level at the liberty the 2nd smallest ground in the premiership and most grounds in the championship.....Expansion...your having a laugh it will never happen and the longer we do nothing the more chance of relegation as we stand still....
Dai sorry but we don't have a spare £80m-£100m for a brand new stadium, and if we had, we would have nowhere to build it . The expansion of the Liberty together with buying it is the only option, it can be done for about £40m in total, the stadium will be worth far more than that once done. And you want a quick fix, well building a new stadium is not going to be the way, it will take at least 5-10 years to find the building site, get the relevant permissions, get funding and actually build it.
I agree it would be a big financial investment, but have you considered the vast increase already agreed next season with the TV rights? and more increases to follow, which will more than comfortably take care of the costs involved with the stadium, not to mention that a commercial 10 year Mortgage to part fund would be a very good tax vehicle also, I see no issues with the expansion or purchase, we need to move forward and grow, you cannot stand still........................
Of course it will have a massive impact on the clubs finances, yes there is big money coming into the club but lets not forget well over 50% of that money goes on salaries alone.
As for pipe dreams, I like dreams. Even the scary ones. That's why a 35k seater stadium at the end of the tidal lagoon, a few miles out to sea is my preferred pipe dream. Just how frigging awesome would that be haha! It would never ever happen but it would quickly become one of the most iconic stadiums in the world of football!
you baulked recently at the idea of paying 10 million for a player now you think the Club has 50 + million to purchase land and build a brand new stadium ,now that's a pipe dream .

Once the other building programmes have been successful there might be some money for the Liberty. But, being a glass half empty sort I think the best we can hope for is a few thousand extra seats crammed in to the current building and/or in small add ons in two corners (ground level) as there would still be enough access egress from the remaining two open corners. The real cost of expansion will be to the local infrastructure as requested by SWP rather than the stadium itself.
