Nice to see that 7 academy produced players were on the pitch at the end there, Alnwick, Campbell, Vuckic, Ameobi, Dummett, Newton and Streete. 2-3 have already made the step up to legitimately challenge for the first team, and would be nice to see the rest do the same as it looks like our only chance of bringing in some new players!

Great to see the young players getting the chance to stake a claim

Also very hopeful is that he didn't get offside once in a 60 minute run out! I think Papiss has been studying the rulebook this summer.

Dummett looks good, mind. Wonder how that's going to pan out - more than one suggestion about Santon playing LW.

It should always be our first port of call rather than the cheque book though. It should be like signing new players for free and saving a shed load of obscene funds in the meantime. They'll offer more because they have an alleigence to the club, and won't demand such silly wages. I'll never complain about a manager saying "its like new signings" if they are able to promote from within. For years we have moaned about our pathetic youth system, young players not getting a chance, and the national team suffering. Its too hypocritical and quite frankly a complete waste of money if don't then utilise the product it produces having invetsed in it.

In an ideal world all English clubs would be looking to their youth system more. Unfortnately to keep pace we spend wildly and end up with a league of foreign/a few English mercenaries.

I'd be fairly comfortable going into a season with Haidara and Dummet as our LB's - - especially if there is a recall clause in Fergie's loan deal

Maybe not - I agree with you, though. If we're going 4-4-2, I'd be happy with either Haidara or Dummett behind Santon or Jonas. If Jonas can rekindle the spirit of 2011/12, that's a very strong left hand side.

If they could just sign these fecking strikers we might be able to start up a positive thread.....

Haidara is listed as "Available" on the NUFC.com website

And yes: Left backs we've got in abundance. Midfielders: our cup runneth over. Elsewhere: more or less covered.

    Strikers ?

Good goal - encouraging to see Cisse looking sharp and confident. It's one worth seeing if you haven't already:

My favourite bit of this video should be the strike or maybe the neat interchange between Sammy & Cisse but instead it's how short Anita is!

I agree it is good to see what looks like a confident Cisse scoring. Can he continue this against the big boys though?
