Middlesboros looks pretty much the same as St Mary's.....except for match days in the prem when there are a lot of empty seats even when in the prem. lol
I forgot about The Darlington Arena aswell, another Miller Partnership stadium. It has a capacity of 25,000 yet last season had an average attendance of just 1886 - the atmosphere there must have been awful in a large empty stadium!
I think a capacity of around 38,000 would easily be filled if both Saints we're in the Prem, aswell as Leicester. Don't think we're expand SMS untill we're in the top 6-8 in the Prem.
I used to get a right buzz walking down Walnut street to Filbert street - just dont get that with the KP. As the famous Leicester song goes: When you're feeling tired and weary Your heart will skip a beat You'll get your ****ing head kicked in As you walk down Filbert Street You'll walk into the Spion Kop And hear a mighty roar **** off your Forest bastards We are the Leicester boys
10,000 is still too much with the gates they get there, what a waste of money! Who's crazy idea was it to build a stadium that big?
I'm loving West ham moving to the olympic stadium - talk about kiliing the goose that laid teh golden egg! The will never fill it, they'll have a running track round the pitch so the view will be distant (massively so compared to The Boleyn, where you can touch the players when taking a throw in), the atmosphere will be rubish and they'll lose a home advantage.
I have done a stadium tour of the SoL in Sunderland with one of their ex-players, who is my mates brother in law. That is one hell of a stadium, the players lounge and changing rooms are first rate. ST Mary's will have to go some to beat that. The front reception at SoL is all marble and looks like the front desk of a posh hotel.
The home dressing room at St Marys is pure class, Cortese has had it fitted with plush wooden panels and individual padded leather benches for each player - no joke
Cov, Boro and Derby differ slightly to leicester in that thay are not wholly symmetrical and therefore have a modicum of character. Cov's stands seem steeper making the ground seem a little more imposing. The consensus about many newer grounds is generally negative. Travelling Saints fans may be disappointed with the atmosphere at the KP crisp bowl.
I thought only Leicester brought some atmosphere Saturday, the forest fans were outsung for 70minutes and let's not mention the pink seats................
Just to clarify the expansion capability of the KP Stadium. The only stand which isn't easily expandable is the West Stand. This is because to do so would require knocking down the offices. The South, North and East stands already have necessary facilities to expand easily, such as fittings for extra 'volumtaries' and the like. I believe this could be done in a summer and would raise the capacity to around 45000. The West Stand will only be expanded if Leicester are regularly getting Champion's League football, in which case the capacity would be raised to 55000. Personally I think we should expand all three sides as soon as possible. Any extra empty seats would be in the upper tier, so not likely to effect the atmosphere too much. Also, in our last season in the Prem, our AVERAGE attendance was over 30000. This makes me believe we could get 40000 on a regular basis if we were promoted. In regards to our potential support, we took 44000 to Wembley against Blackburn. There was still demand for tickets after this but they would not give us more than 4000 over the usual play-off allocation of 40000 at old Wembley. At Filbert Street our average attendance was probably 20000 on average. Looking at this, you would not think it was worth expanding the stadium to 32000. However, as it looks like Southampton fans found out as well, building a new stadium totally changes not only who will go to the football but the culture around buying tickets. In the Prem at Filbert Street, the only way of guaranteeing being in the ground was to have a season ticket. To buy a ticket for an individual match required planning weeks ahead. This in itself put many people off trying to go to the game, whereas at the KP they can often turn up on the day. One thing I don't understand about Leicester supporters is why so many people buy tickets on the day. The season ticket prices are very reasonable compared with other clubs, but individual match tickets are expensive. We only have around 15000 season ticket holders which means 6500 other people choose to attend every match but pay £30 ish rather than £14 ish? I went to the Dell in about 1995. I did not like it that much. It seemed small-time and cramped. Pretty much as Filbert Street must've seemed to visiting fans. One thing I miss about Filbert Street is the 100 years of filth accumulated on the walls and ceilings! So like the Dell I imagine, it was a dump but our dump! I went to St Mary's for the FA Cup 3rd round game a few years ago and it did look remarkably similar. The only difference seemed to be the seats felt closer together but maybe this is just in the away end? Anyway, enjoy the game on Saturday all. I won't be there though...I'm going on holiday.
This is a FACT. clough24 you are a clown, son. Forest - Worst fans in the league, possibly the country.
Some questions Stourbridge. Firstly, I thought originally it was 3 sides but more recently they decided they could only do one? I heard this last month. It also says just one stand here? http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...l=uk&client=firefox-a&source=www.google.co.uk Also, surely the argument against us having 45,000 seater stadium is not just the atmosphere, but more not wanting to become the next Wigan, playing the Premiership with large parts of the stadium empty? I don't know about you, but I'd rather play in a full 32,500 seater stadium than have the embarrassment of not filling one. And even if it was full, it would be so made up of plastics that the atmosphere would suffer. In the Premiership last time we averaged over 30,000 but it wasn't a sellout every time. So that suggests that crowds would not go much higher than 32,000 anyway. Can you really imagine us attracting 45,000 for any game? Really? I don't think 3 stands being double tier would look good either. For the capacity to only be 13K more than it is now, the top tiers would have to be far smaller than the other ones, making it look ugly. Personally, I think one similar sized tier on top of the East Stand, taking the capacity to just under 40,000, would look very nice. But mainly I just think Clubs shouldn't get too big for their boots - we need to realise our limitations and not become a laughing stock by trying to reach beyond our means, not financially, and not in other ways either. I think if we get carried away and expand the stadium too much we will regret it.
If we did expand the stadium we would never to make ticket prices cheaper or we would end up with a half empty stadium which completely kills the atmosphere. Look at Cov for example, there is no atmosphere
