Perhaps because you never had friendlies against massive opposition where there was no segregation?

I don't mean in a bad way like "you can't attract the big clubs" as we paid £1M to get Real Madrid to come to us - tbh really stupid money but our owners seem to have money to burn.

I was just thinking this recently.

Our owners have plans to put another tier on one of the stands if we go up - don't tell me you're doing the same <yikes>

As for the record attendance, I think we've had a few seats taken out since that Rugby game for some reason.

I think it's the Itchen stand that can't be built upon...potential expansion capacity of the stadium is up to 50,000 apparently!

No disrespect, but I don't think either of us are going to attract 50,000.

I think one extra tier would be good for us if we were in the Premiership, as long as the capacity was less than 40K, I think it would be just under.

I remember hearing we could have had 3 stands built upon at one point but I think things changed, or maybe they just thought the same as me that the capacity would be too much and we'd never fill it.

As I'm sure we would, but Wembley is different to a Premier League game.

When in the Premier League, we frequently filled SMS with largest gate of 31,151 for Arsenal in 2003, but we also had some much lower gates. I suspect it will be a while before enlarging SMS becomes a viable option. Realistically, it would have been nice to have a capacity of about 35-40,000 in the Prem, but it would have made us rattle in League 1.

with a good pricing structure i think we could attract over 40k. but we're limited because obviously the city is quite small. though i suppose there arent so many top teams around so we do have support from all over hampshire <ok>

What Emilio_Ivanhoe_Heskeynho means is attract that many on a regular basis - how many did you have for your last game, doubt there was a list for more tickets.

Before you say anything, it is the exact same for us - we can't fill our stadium regularly for our matches either so no point for either of us expanding as playing in an half empty stadium is depressing - watch any MOTD not including the "big four".

I agree. Night games are my favourite for atmosphere. Maybe because there's less kids?
