Plenty of Saints have not only been born in Pompey, they've played for Pompey, before or after playing for Saints. Bobby Stokes - born and raised in Pompey. OXO - born and raised, etc... No less than Ron Davies and Mick Channon played for Pompey, and shortly after retiring, Mick when interviewed wanted his mate Alan Ball's Pompey side to beat Saints [it was a draw 2-2, IIRC]. So big bloody deal. I really don't see what all the fuss is about. Perhaps the biggest surprise is Darren 'Sicknote' Anderton. Born and raised in Southampton, and played for Pompey, after being signed by Alan Ball. Loathed by the vast majority of Saints fans. There's no logic to it at all. BTW, the real face lift to St Marys that I will be interested in is when the revamp plans are given the OK by Southampton CC and the Our Future..? caption loses its question mark.
That's just the point they cannot be considered to be true football fans if they hate someone just because they had something remotely to do with another side. It's what they do in the here and now that is important. To hate some one for the footballing preference belongs in the school playground......not as a football supporter.
Indeed. JWP will be one of a fair few Pompey lads coming through our academy with the state of play down there. The type of player he is, he could folllow Chamberlain into the England team if he impresses.
And with our academy the only one for miles around being given grade one status, any half decent youngster from Portsmouth will end up playing for us (even if he starts out in their youth setup). Same can be said for Brighton, Bournemouth, Bristol, Plymouth...
