    Good old Wiki, eh Stan?

These false idols to which you refer, aren't they commonly referred to as shopping malls?

Happy St George's Day to one and all.
This weekend, we Aussies and Kiwis acknowledge those who have served us, commonly referred to as Anzacs and the price they paid for our freedom.
    We salute them all.

You are thinking of St Cerny's Day - the patron saint of unsubstantiated speculation (on a Thursday)

Not entirely sure about the Saints thing there mate. The Anglican Church does venerate Saints, particularly at the High Church end. Its not adverse to a wee bit of Marian worship either when the mood takes it:

I think you should of used a 'full stop' after the word 'averse' in your first sentence.

It's a fair cop, Nines. I'll come quietly. Perhaps not.

I think you'll find it's "should've" not "should of", Nines.

You'll please note that I shut the **** up when I realised where this was going!

    Apologies to Col.

To try to bring things back on track, what does the panel think about the recognition of the Cornish people as a 'national minority', essentially putting them in the same bracket as the Scots, Welsh and Irish?

Do you think this weakens the overall sense of English identity, or strengthens it, or doesn't make a blind bit of difference?

Personally I think it is a good thing, so long as other regions are afforded the same courtesy. I was reading a few days ago about how county flags are starting to flutter again and believe it possible to strengthen regional identities without weakening the larger national identity. If handled properly, a greater sense of regional identity, with this recognised and respected more by the national administration, could encourage counties etc. to engage more enthusiastically at the national level with a wider sense of union and (in this instance) Englishness.

The Devon and Cornwall flags are quite prevalent down there, and are cool flags as well. I'd like to resurrect the Middlesex 3 swords, but suspect it will be a struggle. But I like the mongrel nation that is England and a stronger sense of identity for Norfolk means little to me.

Knowledge at our fingertips is a wonderful thing sir. Add football grounds and (no) talent shows to shopping malls, spot on.

Correct. High Church are, I'm told, Catholics, or Catholic wannabes.

Don't you just love the fact that at World Cup time we adorn our German, French or Japanese cars with flags made in China...
