Neither. It's a myth that the English flag 'offends' people from other countries. It's the racist ****ers that wave them as a way of telling others they aren't welcome that are the problem.

God help Britain First if they ever come to Hull, the lot of them will be napalmed. And not in a nice way.

I have, Andy Croft & drummer Ben Gordelier both play in PW's band. All Weller's band are touring at the minute under the name The Songbook Collective doing stuff from their own bands & solo stuff. Steve Pilgrim (Weller's drummer) does some decent stuff too.

Andy Croft made the Weller documentary released a couple of months ago. He's well into his photography too.

Why would Britain First be waving the English Flag?

The English flag offends lefties who don't like to see it displayed and claim that it, and the Union Jack shouldn't be displayed in case it offends someone as an excuse to stop it being flown. They are the ****ers.

I was in Hull yesterday. Passed the Islamic Food Store, places offering money transfers to various places in India, Pakistan etc and numerous stores with all the writing in Polish. Wonderful, examples of integration.
Some Polish lads tried to integrate. Unfortunately they decided to do that at the .KC where their attempts to generate some atmosphere lead to sideways glances, glares and complaints which lead to stewards threatening to eject them much to their bafflement. They gave up after a few games.

Incidentally, how do you napalm someone in a friendly way, as a matter of interest?

Some people seem to think that craft beers are automatically real ale which they aren't.

That's my point, it doesn't actually offend anybody so claims that it does are ridiculous. Have a look at some of the Britain First marches; they've pretty much bastardised our flag, our armed forces and the name of our country by claiming to speak for us.

I know you shouldn't hate, it isn't healthy. But I do hate them and, by extension, anybody who shows support to their meaningless, hate filled cause.

Oh and to napalm somebody in a friendly way, it's still horrendous, but you do send their partners flowers after.

I don't like people happy to accept the benefits ((in both senses of the word) of living here but demean the country and its habitants, burn symbols of the day to commemorate the people who died to keep this country free from a really vile party, call for the overthrow of our system and the implementation of a barbaric, medieval system and refuse to integrate whilst demanding concessions whilst refusing to budge an inch themselves.
    But, each to their own...

I appreciate the grey areas, and that this is about nationalism, and I get the irony of saying this on a thread about a patron saint, but this looks to be heading towards politics and religion, so can you consider the board rules before posting?

Before it gets shut, though I don't consider pointing this out political, though it illustrates the self loathing left's attitude which George Orwell wrote about over 70 years ago, this is the sort ofbthingbwhich irritates me and a lot of other people. Can you imagine America, France, Spain or anywhere else having cities where they ban a national celebration day because people there speak a lot of languages? Of course we know this is just a cover for their having contempt for their own country and its traditions.

    Who's banned it?

A "Sun" (I know The ****ing Sun") story which misinterprets "funding" as "a snub" but stll doesn't report it as "a ban" like you have.

There were plenty of St George's Day events in Bristol yesterday. Nothing was banned.

I'm as leftie as leftie can be, I mix with fellow lefties & not one of us has ever mentioned ever been offended by the St George flag. That, I'm afraid, is a myth routed around by right wing, racist, Sun & Mail reading idiots, much like yourself, who have hijacked the flag for their own racist & political ends.

Why would lefties be offended by a flag? It's the politics of the people who have taken to hiding behind our flag that we find offensive.

Many people of the Left tend towards an internationalist viewpoint and frown on patriotism as parochial, divisive and 'small-minded'.
A generalisation of course, but like all generalisations, contains a kernel of truth.

But that link highlights my point; the bloke at the end says that the flag is strongly associated with the 'We are England' lot, which is almost what it has become a symbol for. They don't hate the flag, it's the people who use it as an icon for hatred who are the problem.

Cancelling St George's day is bonkers, but that was the councils idea, I don't believe they were asked to do it by anybody?

This 100%. Nobody is ever offended or complains about the cross of St George being flown. It's a myth invented to serve the needs of those looking for a reaction to a reaction that never happened.

For some people there is a link between the flag and certain political groups, so they feel uneasy about the flag being displayed or overt shows of pro Britishness. For them it smacks of jingosim or even xenophobia.

Which is the point I was making. These things are done by self loathing lefties, read George Orwell who described this peculiarly British phenomenon decades ago. They claim to be doing it formal sorts of reasons but in reality are using them as a cover for their own prejudices.

As opposed to generally wanting a totally white British country with no multiculturism whatsoever. Cause I kinda get the feeling that's where we're heading with this...
