Skysports.com understands Craig Gardner is undergoing a medical at Sunderland ahead of signing a three-year contract at the Stadium of Light.

Gardner has been busy finalising a move to Wearside in order to return to the Premier League following Birmingham City's relegation last season.

It was revealed earlier this week that the 24-year-old was due to hold talks with the Black Cats on Wednesday and he has now accepted an offer to join Steve Bruce's side.

Sunderland are understood to be paying in the region of £6million for Gardner, who joined Birmingham from local rivals Aston Villa 18 months ago.

Busy

He was the club's top scorer last season with 10 goals and he netted in Blues' 2-0 home victory over Sunderland in April.

Gardner's impending arrival on Wearside will help to cushion the blow of the recent departure of young midfielder Jordan Henderson to Liverpool.
Black Cats boss Bruce has been busy in the transfer market this week and splashed out an initial £8.1million to sign teenage striker Connor Wickham from Ipswich Town on Wednesday.

Bruce has also agreed deals for Keiren Westwood and Gardner's ex-Birmingham team-mate Sebastian Larsson, and is keen on Manchester United trio Wes Brown, Darron Gibson and John O'Shea.

Three year contract? Surprised we aren't trying him down for longer than that.

Are we really signing a decent midfielder that scores goals??

****, miracles will never cease, two good signings in 2 days, you'll be telling me we're signing a left back next!

Quality addition to the team! <ok>

Not sure why we need Gibson now. Id rather see us pick up a midfielder that can play on the flank and go past a man.

Quality signing.

Jordan was a sacrificial lamb for us, but his departure has lead the way for 3-4 players coming in. I don't think many people would be unhappy getting Gardner and Larsson as midfield replacements, and still having arounf £15m left to play with for the likes of Wickham, Dong and whoever else we have on our radar.

I think defence is now more a focus over midfield. Samba and Wellbeck would be the 2 signings I would be enthusiastic for now.

Mint isn't she? If I got my hands on her...

She'd probably beat the living daylight out of me.

And, sadly, I'd probably ****ing love it.

Me toooooo!

She'd never play tennis again if i got hold of her for an hour....

Gardner? Delighted, exactly the kind of link player we need, well done again Brucey <ok>

Oh she would play again after I was finished, but she would be walking like a cowboy for a couple of days. <ok>
