I think great credit goes to the committee - since their arrival, they've brought in some great players. There will always be 'flops' but the 'hits' have been big hits and made a significant contribution: Coutinho, Sturridge, Toure, Sakho, Mignolet We can now see the spine of the team coming along. But Rodgers is a young, dynamic and progressive manager - he will continue to make mistakes but he will learn. What I like most about him are his beliefs and philosophies - he's studied many styles abroad (notably Spain) and even speaks fluent Spanish. Small thing I know but it shows you his thirst for knowledge.
With regards to the Scouse Heart - I look at Kuyt and Hyypia as examples of foreign players with the same level of passion and loyalty for Liverpool as any scouser.
we have had plenty of players who have had the clubs interest at heart, ie Gary mac, Hamman,Barnes etc doesn't necessary have to be a local lad, its the commitment and passion they show for the club that is important. Foreign, English, makes no dif to me as long as they are prepared to die wearing the shirt as i ruddy would if i was privileged enough like them to play for us. sadly we are seeing more and more mercenaries entering the game and dont give a **** about the history like they should and pride for playing for that club, they just want to please their bank managers and wags/tarts whatever you like to call them.
You're right. There's honorary scousers all over the world by now but surely a great footballing city like Liverpool can produce a stream [or trickle] of talent-in-waiting.
All good points but how do we keep the feel good factor when players like Gerrard, Lambert and Rooney are saving England's backside? Not to forget Baines. England now beats with a scouse heart!
I take the stance of 'if they're good enough' here. As pointed out yesterday when discussing Suso, I wouldn't leave the spot open open for that player. I'd recruit new players to improve the team/squad and if that youngster proves to be good enough they will raise to the top regardless. If the is a scouse lad that is good enough, they will force their way through the ranks no matter who is in the team. Not many of them are good enough, only really Kelly IMO.
I'm not arguing with you. I want us to find the best replacements possible. If that player is a marquee signing then I want us to sign his ultimate successor as soon as possible. I truly don't care where they were born. As for Suso, I do want him back next season. If he's improved and makes our side even better - brillant. If he has not made the grade then move him on.
I think Rodgers has mentioned it before, he is looking for players with heart. The right attitude goes a long way, like mentioned plenty of foreign players have had the liverpool heartbeat because they grew with the club and stayed. Honorary Scousers as to speak. There are plenty of players who just need to find somewhere they are happy and loved, lets hope we find some Suarez has this attitude to the game unfortunately would give this to any club, need someone with the heart and the wish to have loyalty. If we could have some success which would maybe keep hold of Suarez a little longer,do you think he could become loyal?????......naaaaaaaaa
depends what type of success we have, i doubt Barca would have kept hold of Messi without theirs so who knows, i doubt he is loyal any more than Luis is, just he is already at the top of his game,Luis maybe was hoping to get there with us but doesn't think we will manage it and cant blame him for wanting to play for Real. i don't know, not making excuses for him as i expect him to go at some point, but be interesting to see where we head if we get that ****ing top 4 spot that has eluded us lol, he may stay and go down in folklore as a genius and **** playing for us.
I agree, I just don't want to see us pin our hopes on a young unproven lad (in the Premier League) rather than signing someone that's ready for the first team immediately.
Nope. I've gone on record as saying we could win the treble (Title, FA Cup and CL) and he's still want to leave if Barca or Real came knocking. He said when he joined us that his ambition was to play for one of them.
Suarez.... look give him 250k per week and he'd "stay". one of these is going to happen. 1. he is sold before he blows up. 2. he does yet another incredibly stupid thing and is unsellable. I hope these bullet points help. LFC are not nor never will be real madrid for these Hispanic players. simple as.... its like a mantra they all want to play for...... so if they are currently the best on offer you need to accept it, put them on long contracts like arsenal did with fabregas and take the proift when the spanish come calling with thier bankrupt country propping up a bankrupt club. If we get 25 goals out of this guy (seems possible all day right now) and he doesn't racially abuse, head butt, punch, gouge, bite or otherwise get himself a life ban we should be quids in next summer. we should be buying big before the world cup.
I don't think it's important to have a scouser at the heart of the club, although it would be nice. People like Hyypia have come from abroad and found a home here whilst truely embodying what it means to be a local. Don't care too much where they're from as long as they're good and committed enough
Question to everyone: Would you want a Spearing for his entire career or would you want a Luis Suarez for 3 years ...?
Latter. Can sell and replace in the scenario as well as be a good side. Spearings not good enough and a one-club-man becomes a bit stale after a while.
I agree - Carra's and Gerrards are becoming less frequent in this era so you have to compromise. The question above puts it into perspective of how much I value the 'scouse/local' heart. Of course we all want it, but I wouldn't compromise quality.
