i think JW was heaps better than RJ yesterday..not that anyone can be judged on one game, but on that one game, if i were to judge, i wouldn't swap their numbers.
I thought yesterday was a very worthwhile exercise and I'm pleased I went. However I looked on and thought "we are considerably weaker than we were this time last year". So I'm eagerly awaiting all of these new signings. Argentina 1978 - I remember bits and obviuosly the Willie Johnston affair. Then I read a book Scotland 78, and it filled in lots of detail especially about the fans. One of the best football books I've read.
i completely agree. i remember thinking at the same fixture last year that i was surprised how much stronger we looked than i expected. I was sadly not surprised yesterday.
If I had my way... 3 - new left back, or if not, Mirfin. 7 - new midfielder, or if not, McGinn. 8 - Josh Walker 10 - Unless we sign a relatively big-name striker, Sordell. 11 - Forsyth
I think the top eleven numbers are there to be earnt, not handed out. 1 Loach 2 Hodson (would say Doyley, but he's happy with 12) 3 Whether it should be used at all depends on how experienced the incoming left back is 4 Eustace 5 Taylor 6 Mariappa 7 Don't use this season. Letting the youngsters know that there's a genuine opportunity for a starting place is worth more than stroking one player's ego. 8 McGinn or Jenkins 9 Deeney or leave free 10 Sordell or leave free 11 I would consider leaving it, but it will understandably go to Forsyth 12 Doyley
I can't see squad numbers being left empty. My point was if numbers were empty on 6th August, I thought they would be filled by the end of the month. The book Scotland 78 also talks about how difficult Argentina was with the military regime, and this was 4 years before the Falklands war. A real page turner.
Deeney is already number 9, for those that think it is free/ think he should be number 10 - #ifitaintbrokedontfixit
