For those that are interested in these things, below are the squad numbers. I notice Reza is there, a change of heart must have been had.

Charlton have confirmed their squad numbers for the 2015/16 campaign, with Jordan Cousins being the big mover by swapping his number 24 strip for the number eight shirt.

Previously held by former skippers Mark Kinsella and Matt Holland, the academy graduate is likely to break the 100 appearances barrier with the number eight next term, having turned out 94 times for the club thus far.

His vacant 24 becomes occupied by youngster Regan Charles-Cook, with fellow academy graduates Tareiq Holmes-Dennis and Karlan Ahearne-Grant now occupying 18 and 19 respectively.

New signing Cristian Ceballos, who grabbed an assist on his debut against Bolton Wanderers on Friday evening, takes the esteemed number 10 jersey from Franck Moussa, who will be given choice of a new number upon his return to fitness.

Defensive recruits Patrick Bauer and Naby Sarr will don number five and six respectively next term. Simon Makienok takes nine. The tall, imposing striker’s style of play being well suited to the reputation that his squad number is associated with on British soil.

Fellow recruit El-Hadji Ba comes in at 22, Zakarya Bergdich at 19 while another new man, Ahmed Kashi, takes the number three.

Elsewhere, Stephen Henderson maintains the number one spot, captain Johnnie Jackson keeps his number 4, Tony Watt stays at 32, Chris Solly at 20, and last term’s joint top scorers Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Igor Vetokele keep hold of seven and 14 respectively.

I am not a numerologist. I normally see no mystical import in who has which number although I hope the significance of Harriott retaining the number 11 is that we are still hoping to sign a (much needed) specialist "wide-left" man who will take the number once Harriott leaves (as seems inevitable). Note I do not say "winger". I would not pollute my lips.

But I would like to have a moan about the increasingly sloppy, moronic language used on our website. A meaningless friendly match wherein our third-string players face a non-league team becomes a "clash".

Now one hundred appearances becomes a "barrier". A minor landmark for a young player maybe, but hardly a "barrier". A barrier is something hard to overcome, like the four-minute mile once was (and maybe that was when the word first became popular in a sporting context?) or the "Sound Barrier", which was the trope-maker.

The fact that KIm Grant notched 155 appearances for us shows that any mediocrity can overcome this so-called "barrier" by sticking around long enough in these days of three subs a match.

Of course, the undermining of our English language and hence culture was well advanced in George Orwell's day, but I mainly blame Mrs Thatcher and her grovelling subservience to everything American. (I just added that bit for Vol's benefit).
