I think aiming for 3rd with a good F.a cup run would be a reasonable finish. Anything less than 4th I would feel is unsatisfactory. I think United and Chelsea will occupy the top 2 with City coming 4th (Only because they may take time to adjust to the champions league demands). Arsenal, depending on which "big" player goes or stays this summer will affect their camp and possibly their position. Tottenham are just pretenders and have been riding the wave for the last 2 years. In spite of this, I still think we have to be wary of Spurs and Arsenal.
I think they need more than one,as Scholes has retired,Hargreaves was released and Gibson and Anderson are useless.
Really like this whole thread... very good read. my opinions to add to the mix. 1. still think we are looking at 5th but with some good football to enjoy. I am watching arsenal's spend and squad issues but i was looking at this last year too... I am not sure if they will come back to us and spurs. 2. i think a cup is possible if we go for them with gusto. 3. i agree on kenny playing horses for courses this season with formation changing. however i think players like kuyt no matter what people think of him are the first on the team sheet. 4. not sure where adam fits in... meireles and aquilani look to be players we will see go, one of them anyway... meireles is unfairly critised i think, he was playing injured cos we had nobody else. i think he worked hardest of anyone on the field too boot. for me aquilani is a guy whos talked numerous times to the press looking for his move so can't be committed to us. 5. its an interesting point about homegrown squad lists and who will be in the 25. i'll have to think on it at bit
I reckon we can capitalise on Arsenal being weakened. Its called competition. If you stand still-you get left behind.Spurs haven't got any stronger. They aren't a threat anyway. If we finish above Chelsea,City and Man United,we will be champions. My money is on Chelsea for the league and Barcelona for the CL,and Liverpool for the domestic cup double and finish in the top 4.,Man United to win an arguement.
I think you will see several formations this season depending on who your playing. Personally I see it been based around 4-3-3, my starting line up would be Riena, Johnson, Carra, Agger, LB Lucas, Gerrard, Henderson (or Adam) Kyut, Carroll, Suarez subs Doni?, Skitel, Kelly, Spearing, Adam, Merieles, Downing, or 4-4-2 Same GK and back 4 Henderson, Lucas, Gerrard, Downing Kuty (or Carroll), Suarez I think your first match will be 4-3-3 with: Same GK and back 4 Henderson, Gerrard, Adam, Kyut, Carroll, Downing (or 4-4-2 with Downing dropping back to LW)
I personally feel will finish 4th maybe 3rd at a push. Then the season after it's title time for us! I believe Steven Gerrard will lift the Premier League trophy before he retires. I also fancy us to win one of the domestic cups (more likely the Carling Cup) and to have a decent run in the other. Adams corners and Carroll's headers will be lethal next season! My 2011/12 top 6: 1.)Chelsea 2.)Man City 3.)Man Utd 4.)Liverpool 5.)Tottenham 6.)Arsenal.
Liverpool can buy all the players in the world. Which they seem to be gradually doing but surely replacing the ageing Carragher must be top priority. Any team with him lumbering around in the back four is going to leak goals. Hats off though Adams is a brilliant purchase.
