Stumbled across the Ugly Inside's forum this evening. One thread was titled Sammy Lee. The author wrote... His handshake with Pochettino after the game couldn't have been less sincere. Good lad.

    Sums up my feelings. <laugh>

What on earth's going to happen at the World Cup in Qatar? Maybe the players will carry round a rucksack full of water and a big straw...:emoticon-0138-think

Watch the replay again of that incident, as it made me look again. There was a clear push...

    .

    ... on the Saints defender.

Hey Tom, any idea what/who may have been lurking in a "non-interfering" manner, that may have made him hesitate? <whistle>

He had to ignore him. He wasn't interfering. Kane didn't do anything that would make Forster think he was going for the ball.

Kane let the ball run past him. He made no attempt to go to the ball. Forster was far too slow to realise this. I would expect a keeper of Forster's standard to come out and win the ball in that situation. It's the not the first time his decision making has been poor. His shot stopping is excellent but he doesn't command his penalty area well enough. The second goal against Bournemouth showed this.

almost as good as your factual knowledge of what Fraser saw and thought :p

several players stopped/faltered. Any chance any of them were effected?

Kane was interfering enough that every single Saints defender thought it was nailed on going to be given offside, which is why they all stopped (watch it again). As did I, as did Onionman Jr and as did, this evening watching the highlights, Mrs Onionman. Note that our defenders didn't appeal, they stopped - they were certain.

The only person who didn't seem to agree was the linesman. And you, of course.

    It wasn't offside.
A player in an offside position is only penalised if, at the moment the ball touches or is played by one of his team, he is, in the opinion of the referee, involved in active play by:
    • interfering with play or •
interfering with an opponent or •
gaining an advantage by being in that position
He wasn't interfering with play, he wasn't interfering with an opponent and he didn't gain an advantage. Son gained the advantage because our defence and goal keeper switched off.

Tom, quoting the law is an irrelevance. This isn't about the wording of the law. Everyone but you and the linesman thought he WAS interfering with play.

He was interfering with play by distracting the defenders, his location was enough to do that, just standing there with your hands in the air isn't enough, the mere fact that you are in an offside position when the ball comes forward is interfering with the decisions made by the defenders, if the rules says otherwise then it, as they say, is horse do-do's.

As Brian Clough famously said 'If he's not interfering with play, what is he doing on the pitch?'

This comes directly from the FIFA laws of the game:

    • “interfering with play” means playing or touching the ball passed or touched by a team-mate

    • “interfering with an opponent” means preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision or challenging an opponent for the ball

    • “gaining an advantage by being in that position” means playing a ball i. that rebounds or is deflected to him off the goalpost, crossbar or an opponent having been in an offside position ii. that rebounds, is deflected or is played to him from a deliberate save by an opponent having been in an offside position

    Kane was not offside.

The only possible way Kane could be deemed offside was if he was obstructing Forster's line of vision. He wasn't so it wasn't offside.
