I feel like a relic most of the time. I have become one of the people who I used to decribe as old and "past it". I have certain beliefs and principles that now appear to be outdated which is a shame. I have also become a huge grumpy old man. Luckily I will soon get to the age where my behaviour stops being "weird" and becomes "eccentric". Of course, my hair drys quickly (guess why) and I get really good car insurance which is about the only bonuses I can think of. See, told you I was a GOM!
moreinjuredthanowen - Let them play music that they like, they won't practice otherwise. My brother is a DJ and it takes a long while to start getting paid properly for gigs, regardless. Producing your own music always helps as a selling point, although it depends on what genre they're trying to work in. Ultimately it's tough to make a living in the music industry full stop, because of the amount of people that all want to do it. My brother has been doing it for about 10 years, he used to run his own club nights which is really useful as he made a lot of contacts through booking people and got his name around. Currently he works full time and does his DJing and production in his spare time, he's got a new single just released and has atleast one remix coming out on the new Stanton Warriors album, aswell as playing big clubs in London, like Fabric and Mass but still would struggle to make what he does currently, working full time in the music industry.
But it's only when you are described by others as being old and passed-it that you realise that it's not true. OK so it may take me all night to do what i did all night but as long as I enjoy it who cares? I must admit the lads on this board are very indulgent of my idiosyncrasies and that at least helps keep my mind 'young'.
That sounds good advice. I have a friend in Tobago who is a DJ. He spotted that there was a gap in the market for what they call 'Old Times' music - especially for parties and functions. However, as Soca in particular, is highly perishable the definition of what constitutes Old Time is very flexible! But the important thing is that he enjoys the music that he plays and passes that spirit on to his audiences.
thanks guys... I let them on at what they are at, techno dance house.... whever... the hell they call it.. they mainly do 18's and 21 house parties now with a few pub gigs once in a while. They seem to have the same type of thing but haven't really done the old flyer/ card sin the supermarket stuff and are more on the school mates locally type of business. I basically bought thier kit sofar on the basis they pay some back each gig but half the time let them away with not paying. I was really wondering what could set them up for success early on in the private house party/pub scene in terms of lighting etc.... or what kind of software they should be using to mix.
But our Sky's a multi-tasker you know - it's his feminine side he's displaying - usually in his pinny
I don't know; I thought there was a Spurs v Liverpool match on, but obviously I've got it wrong and there's some sort of DJing festival.
I have to admit that after last weekend I'm feeling a tad like I felt last season - not doubts, we're playing well - but nervous. We're going to have to step up on our finishing, it hasn't been quite up to the mark this season. I'm indirectly quoting something a poster elsewhere pointed out which I agree with - we should've had at least 7 against Bolton, Sunderland we sat back, Arsenal we could've put 5 or 6 past. Our defence has improved a lot but that was a bloody soft penalty we gave away against Stoke. OK it's all debatable as to whether it was a penalty but that Clattenburg was on one last week. As soon as Stoke went up they parked the bus, and I'm afraid Spurs will do the same. We've got the players. We shouldn't have lost against Stoke. Having said that I think Carra is too slow these days, and I'm still not sure why we have Skrtel.
I think you started the pedantry here. Ens clearly meant we don't have the metaphorical bus for parking. You started down the literal path.
