From the Mail: Hull are leaky at the back and confidence is low, and Phelan’s options are severely limited. They have a fighting spirit, forged on chaos behind the scenes, although the squad is ill-equipped for the struggle ahead both in terms of numbers and quality. Phelan’s experience and fuss-free approach is another asset. Whether these things are enough to survive remains to be seen. ‘The result was harsh but we’re staying positive,’ said Phelan. ‘We haven’t laid down, we created chances. When we went in one-down I never felt as though we were out of the game. I felt there would be a chance and if we’d take it we had a game on. But quality came through for Tottenham.’
Yeah, 'cos didn't we just lose out to Preston on a free transfer? I couldn't be more certain that with Eshit and Phelan's combined brain cell that we're going to have an outstandingly entertaining transfer window. What could possibly go wrong?
I'm really not sure you get the 3-5-2 ... Elmo was playing as the wing back .. with Snoddy up front behind Dio .. free role as you wish .. as for playing the two wing backs in a full back role .. if Odebajo had been fit then he is a better defender and could play that role... however he isn't so we have what we have .. if Phelan was looking to play 4 he would have seen already while working under Bruce that he needed more solid defenders .. instead he goes out and buys Weir .. Keane .. and a bunch of midfielders with no defensive capabilities. Wise move... NOT
Elmo and Robbo are not defenders and are to blame for two goals. Each gave the Spurs wide players a two yard start. Yes the team can play nice tippy tappy football but after 7 or 8 passes possession is always lost. Would seriously consider playing the old Wimbledon ploy of three up front and the long ball. Desperate times desperate measures.
It's not desperate times, we're 19th in the Premier League. Desperate times are when Warren Joyce took over from Hateley.
Haven't waded through 19 pages to see if the point has already been made - but the first goal was down to Huddlestone, who tracked Eriksen for a while then stopped dead twelve yards out. Eriksen tapped in from eight yards. Other than that, I thought we did ok yesterday. We dominated them at times, played some nice possession stuff and made 2-3 decent chances. That kind of performance on Saturday will see us compete well. Tottenham are not our benchmark, their passing and movement was incredible at times. For all his diving around, Alli is a tremendous player.
The game and result was just all too predictable We would need a very good manager to keep us up with these players and we've got somebody who is there by default
Exactly, and a couple of wins off 13/14th place! People need to put some perspective on our current position.
It is all about finishing 17 (more points than 3 other teams) but in terms of form or Bruce: - 6 points from last 14 games - to get to 10 wins we need 7 from next 22.
Yes but 4 or 5 other teams are also a couple of wins off 13/14th place. We can't rely on them losing their games while we win ours. If we'd got one of our wins last night and Sunderland and Swansea had each got one of theirs we'd still be 19th, that's the perspective. Unless we do something dramatic, which seems unlikely, between now and season-end we're down.
Don't need to do anything dramatic to be honest, just get a decent run of results, which I think we can if we play like we have in the past two games.
Even if we beat WHU on Saturday we are still in the relegation zone. We won't beat West Ham, however. Not with our away form. Play a flat back 4 and double up on Antonio and Poyet, then pray for a Snodgrass free kick to go in. That will be the game plan. Interestingly, with the results we've had, any other manager would've been sacked ages ago. It's testament to our club's shambles that ours will still be here come July.
https://www.villatalk.com/topic/15893-ratings-and-reactions-norwich-v-villa/ just read what these bedwetters think of Brucie - **** knows what they'll be like if they really start getting some bad results - apparently it's negative **** tactics
You can't polish a turd Newland, the players we've got aren't keeping us up, no matter who the manager is. Last season we were the fourth best in the Championship and for whatever reason (blame who you want) that squad, despite money being spent, hasn't been strengthened at all - I don't expect a great deal to be spent next month, that being the case, we need a miracle worker and not a new manager.
Oh I agree with you mate , players and manager aren't good enough Bruce got out because he knew where it was all going
From the Beeb Mason 'devastated' to be sub at Spurs Football Posted at12:41 Former Spurs midfielder Ryan Mason returned to White Hart Lane last night for the first time since leaving the club in August. Mason, 25, a product of the Spurs Academy, was a second-half substitute in Hull's 3-0 defeat by the Lilywhites. "It was obviously the first game I looked out for in the fixture list because I knew it'd be the last game I'd play at White Hart Lane (with Spurs moving to Wembley next season before their ground is full transformed into a new stadium) and it was emotional," Mason said. "I was devastated to be on the bench. I wanted to start the game but that's just part of football - you've got to be professional and ready to come on."
