I wonder if Sherwood noticed how much damage Eriksen did when he was free to wander about and do things on his own terms? They seemed to really struggle to pick him up and close him down, which is fairly understandable when he was popping up all over the place.
There are cheaper seats at the lane for europa matches so I hope we are in it so I can take my kids to a few games...league matches are way more expensive
The Kane sub changed the game for me, not sure if it was Kane that made the difference or the fact that Soldado was soo bad. Also thought Bentaleb had a good game and Chadli as well. Sandro and Fryers did well too considering it was a makeshift partnership.
Not wishing to be negative as your comment is technically correct - just that I think his introduction coincided with Benfica losing what remaining intent and ambition they had in the game. Eriksen shows regular signs of creativity but more often seems to come up short when we need more graft from him against the stronger teams. Hopefully he will develop that side of his game - and his own physical presence - over the coming months.
Kane an academy player was so much more effective than Soldado a £26million striker. Boy do we pick them lol.
Kane is substandard for the Prem and never a Spurs player. I have yet to see a game where I have been impressed with him. And yet, despite that, he's still better than LOLdado.
I'd pick Kane over Soldado any day of the week. I would also like to see Soldado on the bench, on a plane back to Spain......... thank you.
Yeah, agreed. Kane has shown me nothing other than he's just a very average traditional type centre forward. As a once on a while sub, fine, if he's happy with that. If not, get rid. I suppose, at least he didn't cost £20+mill!...
I also got the feeling there's a good team there, maybe even a very good team, which the right manager could bring out next year. I also feel that maybe we're getting an idea of who should play (now that the season's nearly over). We would have been a lot better off with the right manager. With the ones we've had, we would have been a lot better off minus three or four players. Our biggest problem has been not having a starting team that could get better as a unit. Eiriksen: brilliant at free kicks, and therefore needs to be on the pitch. His ability to create aside from that has been more miss than hit, for me--but that's not due to lack of quality, but because PL players have clued on to simply shoving him off the ball. (he's been better in the EL.) That ought to stop from some combination of Eiriksen buiking up a bit, and somebody pointing out that it's not allowed against most players. Lennon: maddening as his small production is, the ability to dribble the ball the length of the field into dangerous spots helps a lot. Sandro: presence and ability to tackle the ball forward really help. Ade: a first rate striker when fit and erm motivated. Chadli and Bentaleb: I've been iffy on both, and in truth would like an upgrade. But Chadli has been able to create goals and dribble and pass effectively, while Bentaleb isn't the best playmaker in the world, and doesn't get the ball forward quickly enough, but he's not bad either, and in both cases we don't really have anyone else who can do what they've been doing (maybe Eiriksen in the case of Chadli, but not until he can keep himself from getting knocked off the ball. Holtby might be my pick, but, again, Chadli's size, compared to both, is a real plus.). Walker and Chiriches: both good players who fit our style of play. Kaboul: really makes a difference when fit. Townsend: sort of a not as good Lennon, but, again, having someone who can create problems with speed and dribbling helps. If we could just get a really good playmaker, everything might just fall together. Even if we just start Bentaleb and the players above, and DON"T PRESS HIGH, we could be quite good. Kane is only twenty years old. In five years he's got a pretty good chance of being twenty-five.
Kane came on yesterday when the game was utterly flat and we were drifting out of the tournament. He got two assists, should've won a penalty, won the ball on a few occasions and tested the keeper, all in the space of twenty minutes. He caused two extremely experienced centre-halves a lot of problems.
At 18/19, Kane was playing like a 15 year old amongst 10 year olds. Even though he was in the right age group, he'd outgrown them, he had at least 3 of the following advantages over any opposition player; height, power, pace, skill. He's entered an arena now where those advantages aren't so clearcut and in a style of play that's unfamiliar to him so it's no surprise that he's taking awhile to adapt. Difficult to say whether he can make it at this level but his performances so far have suggested that he's wasted at any lower level.

Taking away pace (which he doesn't have) , all the U21 games I have seen Kane play he has never "put himself about" against much smaller players. He is IMHO more about grafting, playing the percentage game, and a bit of guile in positioning.
