On this special occasion, I hope any Scouser interlopers on here
will forgive me from pinching their folk anthem and turning it to our own use.
It seemed such an appropriate song. I've recently performed the original
at a (small) musical gathering, so perhaps it was still in my head from then.
It is of course The Leaving of Liverpool
, and I'm posting the version sung by The Dubliners,
although their version is not exactly the same as the one on which I've based what follows.
I'm very sad at leaving the old ground. I'm worried about Wembley (including travel issues)
and slightly apprehensive about adjusting to the new super-stadium in due couree.
But hey! I wouldn't be a Spurs fan if I didn't have a good quota of relentless optimisim in me, would I?!

Leaving of White Hart Lane
Farewell beloved White Hart Lane,
We must leave you for a spell -
Now we’re bound to spend a year at Wem-ber-ly -
That’s a place we know right well!
CHORUS: So fare thee well, my White Hart Lane,
(Before we go United we will beat!)
It's not just leaving our dear old ground that grieves me,
But it’s Wembley when I think on thee!
Oh, our chairman has got us a new stadium -
We’ll still be in White Hart Lane! -
And it looks like a shrewd Dan Levy purchase -
(Wish Sissoko made me feel the same!)
It’s our final game with Man U at old White Hart Lane,
And I think we’ll play like hell.

We’ll hold back our tears now, there’ll be goals from Son,
And from Harry, Christian E as well!
Farewell to my seat in Lower Paxton Stand,

To the Shelf Side and Park Lane.
For although we’ll have a grand new stadium,
It’s a leaving that gives me pain.
Prediction: Spurs 3 Man U 0
Scorers: Kane, Eriksen, Son
Cheers & Tears, Spurf!
