And within 5 minutes, his weakness has been exposed as he gets beaten on his near post again.

Thought he was let down very badly by his wall and did well to almost get there for the first. Could have maybe done better for the second. He's not without his faults is our Hugo but I do like him a lot

Hugo is good, I don't expect to see him at Spurs next season.

Just hope Poch signs a decent replacement, preferably someone with PL experience.

The first goal was criminal defending, or would have been if Spurs I mean France weren't 5-0 up. Benzema decided he was Audrey Hepburn just as Cary Grant was swooping in for a kiss, raising his foot just as the ball scooted under it.

Since both Teddy and Cantona languished in poor sides until their mid twenties because no top club came in for them despite having skills that we 'could all see' this rather proves my point that determining who the good palyers are is rather difficult.

The truth is that Spurs are doing surprisingly well in the world cup, the biggest surprise being that they're playing at all. It looks like Levy has sacked the whole team except Lloris, but hey ho, build around your best player. Last year we got rid of our best player and half the team, so this represents an increase in stability. Besides, it looks like we've improved. I can't believe he was able to buy Ribery and Benzema.

We do need to sack whoever's taking care of the mascot, though, it looks like he's put on some weight, and his tail feathers need a trim.

It's the Utd goals teams need - RvP, Fellaini, Hernandez, Nani - although Rooney's didn't do much good <doh>

Scoff all you want, you nattering nabobs of negativism. Vertonghen, Dembele, Chadli, Lloris, and Paulinho are through as group winners, and Bentaleb only needs to help his team draw to get through. Only Beni is out, and Messi and Neymar combined couldn't have gotten the Abominable Lions through. Spurs clearly are the secret ingredient to World Cup success--very secret, to judge from their play for the most part. But Hugo has a couple of clean sheets, and Nabil's been very solid.

How many Spurs players were in the bottom of their group England team? Seems like underperforming Spain could have done with a striker too.

Hugo and Nabil have been our standout players so far, Hugo's been as solid and daring as ever in goal and Nabil has been really solid for the Algerian midfield. All the Belgium lads were poor in their first game, Jan came on in the second match and was pretty solid but not spectacular. Benny went psycho in his 2nd match and Paulinho has been pony, HOWEVER someone did mention on Twitter something I was quite unaware of, Paulinho has played the equivalent of 72 games without a proper a rest, this is due to playing for Corinthians, playing in the Confeds Cup, joining us for last season and now playing in the World Cup, so it's actually quite understandable if the guy is looking burned out and run down.

That explains a lot as regards Paulinho as he clearly has huge talents as a footballer but we have only seen them in short bursts. Give the man a rest!

Yep. I'm now hoping Brazil get beaten by Chile so the man can have as much of a break as possible before starting training under Poch.

Excuses. Messi and Ronaldo don't have a problem playing a ton of games but there seems to be pattern as Chelsea fans where saying Oscar needed a rest. Maybe these Brazilian players need a month off on the beach. Paulinho should have told us before he signed a multi million pound contract!

How many nations had the chance of putting a token Spurs player in their squad
to ensure a chance of further progress beyond the group stages ??

    England, Spain. Any others ??

Messi had a couple of months off this season already and Ronaldo has ****ed himself up and is consequently not in tip-top shape for the WC.

I'm aware of both these points. Yet the comment wasn't about World Cup year (soley) as Messi has managed to go through seasons playing 60 games and play to a high standard while other players manage to get burnt out playing less games but Paulinho has been poor for some time, even when fairly fresh and overall there are just excuses being made for the player when there is more chance that he isn't as talented as we believe.
