Surely Sterling is ahead of Parrott in the pecking order, not least because the Daily Wail would assume he;s Raheem's brother and go so far off the deep end that they'd end up in the shallow end wearing a leopard print bikini and singing Lady Marmalade?
You do not appear to have the mindset required to propel the cause to greater heights, in spite of the current CM injury plague and Spurs haters waiting for this moment.
Maybe you should support Lesta....you'd fit in well..another team presented with a golden chance to make headway thanks to recent success but they stood still. You and me aren't propelling no cause to no greater height...that's up tight wad Levy...ill always support Poch and the team.
I don't know who might be available, top notch players being transferred tend to be a rarity in January. Clubs know replacements aren't there and unless they're desperate or you're willing to massively overpay, it's no deal. People quote Suarez to Liverpool but they wanted rid as he'd just started biting people. I'm not sure that we've got money to spend on that kind of purchase, given that our long-term weakness lies in midfield and we really need to spend money there this summer and we're not cash rich. How much can we raise and what's our priority? The chances are that we'd be trying for a loan, probably of a player not getting game time elsewhere......like Lucas Moura last season (I know we bought him but that sort of player). The problem is that MP didn't play him last season, despite HK being injured like he currently is...he hardly used Clinton and Vinnie and rarely uses Fernando. Our manager isn't going to use someone he doesn't want and trust and that makes a poorly fitting signing pointless. Let's hope we can find someone but I think he signed for Rangers last week. Just maybe there's another but it's not just DL who has to be pragmatic to get someone in, MP would have to so too.
I think that I know that this would not be a name many here would be particularly in favour of but Sturridge is out of contract in the summer, he is clearly not in their plans and might (just might), be up for 6 months at our place that might get him another move and a decent payday in the summer. I know that his injury record makes it a chance and his wage might be ridiculous but he knows the league and has scored goals and our style might just suit him. Then again he will probably sit on his hands for 6 months and still get what I mentioned with a move to the spammers!
His languid style and injury record mean that he'd probably get on the pitch less than I'm likely to. He doesn't strike me as an MP option. I thought we might try and do a loan swap of Vinnie or Llorente for Benteke. I think that's where we might have success, in offering someone we don't want as an immediate replacement for someone another club doesn't seem to need. Benteke's not happy at Palace and isn't offering them much, even when fit. Maybe we could find the player of a few season's ago. No doubting that he'd be a total punt at this point.
Benteke's only really effective when a team plays on the counter and has good deliveries from well worked set-pieces. Palace do both and he's still been **** for them, but he'd be bloody useless for us, in my opinion.
DL was said to be very keen on Benteke in 2013, when AVB decided he had to have Soldado. Just as Llorente turned up years too late, I can see him trying that kind of move for Benteke. It's very him and Palace might just take Vinnie. I don't think that we'll bring anyone in up front and if we do, the likelihood is that they'll be a flop - see my post before last.
I can see Levy trying something a little different, like a bid for Maja at Sunderland or someone similar. Basically pushing up the schedule on a transfer that we might look at in the summer anyway. I'd expect it to be cover or a prospect and something more long-term, rather than an attempt to bridge a gap. I guess a loan might be possible, if we shift some deadwood. Can't see it, though.
The problem with permanent striker signings is how ****ing bad we are at it and knowing how limited our transfer funds are? Putting aside the ones who have come in and failed (and there are plenty of them since Berbatov), the ones we tried for and didn't get aren't great either - Saido Berahino? Batshuayi? Those players aren't exactly setting the world alight. Given our lack of success in the transfer market, getting Troy Parrott to be a success is imperative to our future.
4 weeks out for Big Moussa too, maybe almost as a big miss as Harry on current form and given we may have even fewer options to cover him!
