Maddison has always struggled with injuries. One of many reasons I didn’t particularly want him at Spurs. I feel it’s something the club don’t focus enough when they make signings. Micky for example is another one that probably should have been avoided because of the hamstring issues and his style of play.
Maddison had missed 43 games with injuries before joining Spurs. Grealish has missed more than twice that many by the way. 10 games missed a season seems to be about average as far as I can tell. So Maddison is well below average and Grealish about average
Why has he been so injury prone since he joined Spurs then? Luck? Or the way they train? (Under multiple managers)
Hard to say. We certainly had an above average incidence of hamstring injuries under Ange but not statistically significant as far as I could see. Maddison has had four entirely different injuries so it seems more like bad luck than anything.
Given the role he plays, getting nobbled by opposition players factors into it Especially as referees seem to think it's okay to allow open season on our players in a concerning number of matches
It's possible that rushing players back factors into it. We start with a squad that's missing numbers and it spirals from there. One injury requires a player to play too often and then they get injured. Repeat until we're desperate and bringing in players that we shouldn't.
Wasn't his first injury in the Chelsea game where they were allowed to kick him with impunity whilst we had 2 sent off!
Which is typical of our games against Chelsea, despite the media claiming the opposite. Caicedo should've been off several times over in the first half, yet ended the match without a yellow.
