I've still not worked out what is that Cleverley actually does! What position does he play and what does he bring to a team? Just seems to run around scowling at people.
Superb from Chadli v. France. Got himself into acres of space, then a perfect backheel in the box set de Bruyn in on goal. (De Bruyn squared perfectly for Lukaku, I thought, but Lukaku somehow missed it completely.) McManaman: "Chadli's been great." For what that's worth.
Half the team didn't seem to know earlier let alone just Cleverley, Rooney, Cleverley and Welbeck were all over the place.
He was the player that I couldn't remember on the 'worst players to play for Spurs' thread last week.
Bearing in mind Wellbeck and Rooney play for the same club team, their communication with each other is woeful. Maybe Rooney is sulking. At least Lambert is doing his job. Excellent leap while keeping his arms tucked in.
So pleased for Lambert, whatever he does in his career from here on he can always say he scored for England at Wembley. Maybe the winner as well.
Rickie Lambert, as Hodgson made clear, was only selected due to injury to Sturridge so he can take no credit for that as he's been overlooking the highest scoring English striker for months. As for Zaha, he wasn't good enough when he was at Palace but now he's played a couple of friendlies for United he is good enough? Bollocks. So much **** that I don't know where to start listing them. Still at least we didn't lose to the Jocks.
Some interesting results all round tonight: Northern Ireland beat Russia Switzerland beat Brazil Germany held to a 3-3 by Paraguay Zlatan got a hat-trick, some things never change.
I'm thrilled for Lambert. A 31 year old who was playing in league 1 two and a half years ago...gets his England debut and scores two minutes later, with a perfect header, on his first touch to beat Scotland. Someone who will go unmentioned said repeatedly he should play for England, beginning at least a year and a half ago, when he was leading the Championship in scoring...
Wanted to see how our boys did in the Belgium match. Seemed Chadli played an interesting new position in the match (scroll down to the line-ups) http://www.goal.com/en-gb/match/107833/belgium-vs-france/report?
Same thing with Carrick and Ashley Young. The only conclusion you can draw from that is they must have taken some seriously performance-enhancing drugs in training to suddenly be international standard.
Well, he's supposed to be versatile, and you can't argue with a clean sheet. He tended to get off his line to such a degree he looked to be playing LM, but what do I know?
What the hell is Woy doing starting Gerrard and Lampard. It's not bloody 2004 How many England managers do we have to go through before the so called "Golden Generation" is shipped out?
As many managers it takes until they're pensioned off. Not sure why the press insist on calling them the Golden Generation anyway, as they haven't won anything as a unit at international level at any point in their careers. Nothing at U21 level, nothing at U21 level, nothing at senior level.
Gerrard's playing a deeper role for the Scousers now, so they could work out ok in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-1-1. Looks like a 4-3-3 to me though, so I can't see how that'll suit them. Bit wonky, actually.
Belgium have Mignolet, Mertens, Dembele, Lukaku and Mirallas on the bench! Good luck, Scotland. Vertonghen and Chadli start, as do Fellaini, De Bruyne and Benteke, from the Prem. Hutton plays his first game of the season for the other side.
Sounds like the Spurs boys did pretty well all round tonight Chiriches captaining Romania's 3-0 over Hungary. Huge rivalry that, lot of pressure for young shoulders to bear which is a good sign.
