The problem with that though spurf, is it's not just about players wanting to leave. It's what we do if they do leave. Someone like Sherwood is not going to be able to attract the talent we need in order to replace those players. "Tim who?!" they'll all be saying. I'm not saying Van Gaal is necessarily the answer, but I don't think Sherwood is. The job required and expectation is too much of a risk to put on him. We need someone with the experience as there's just too much at stake.
Roo, your mate Sherwood talks! Tim Sherwood backs Tottenham to come out fighting and save season ⢠Spurs are six points off Champions League spot ⢠'You can't crawl into a corner and hide,' says manager http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/feb/25/tim-sherwood-backs-tottenham-save-season Fighting talk from our manager, are we ready to stage any sort of fight and save our season?
How many times have we seen "determined to bounce back" or "we need to show character" this season? Must be a record amount surely.
Yeah, we seem to do more bouncing back than a squash ball...has it not occurred to Mr. Sherwood that if we didn't play the kind of clueless crap that his team produced on Sunday, in the first place, then there would be far less " bouncing back" to do?!
Indeed! Tim's done pretty well so far but for a guy who claimed "I know what the fans want", his past couple of games have suggested otherwise. I don't expect Spurs to have a divine right of beating teams I consider of lesser quality but Norwich and Dnipro were two shocking performances that a team of our quality shouldn't be producing. Buck up Timmy boy!
....then when the whistle blows, we start slower than Brian the Snail on Magic Roundabout. or Loads of times....in the 2nd half.
Sherwood keeping the job, beyond Summer, depends not only upon results and "progress". He is, currently, under-qualified. The lack of a UEFA Pro Licence will impede his chances of getting ANY Head Coach/Manager position. I suspect he might be a busy boy, this Summer. The problem with the way we are playing, at the moment, seems to be that once opposing teams work out how to starve Adebayor of the ball, we've got no back-up plan. He's the only striker we've got at the Club who's worth playing and if the midfielders don't take up the slack, we can be running around all day for no reward. That's Sherwood's job to sort out - and if he can't, then expect Levy to show no sentiment whatsoever, come the end of the World Cup, when the managerial merry-go-round will start up again. I like Van Gaal and I like his style. The only hope (forlorn) that I have is for Levy to appoint someone and then just let him get on with the job. If it means going through a season in which we don't hit all our targets, then so be it. If Levy had been in charge of Liverpool, last season, then Brendan Rodgers would have been out of a job, last Summer. Whoever is in charge by the time pre-season rolls around, let him do his job - and support him, PROPERLY, in the transfer market (ie if he says he doesn't want a player, don't go out and buy that player!)
Makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately there's one major flaw in your post. - "Levy". He continues to make **** decisions that affect us on the pitch, so don't expect that to change.
Call me trigger happy or over reactionary(?) if you want but if i have to watch another match like Norwich/Dnipro away tonight then i won't miss Sherwood.
I don't...that's why I said my hope was forlorn! We can't make the Champions League on just our own results and, so far, the only team above us to blink is A***nal - but they seem too far ahead for us to overhaul, unless they suffer something akin to a Harry Redknapp inspired late-season collapse. That said, I've been mulling over whether it would be better to finish 5th and be back to Thursday night football in Transylvania, or 6th, to keep our powder dry for weekend league games. Until yesterday, I voted for 6th place and no Europa League...but then I heard that the Europa League Winners will get a spot in the qualifying tournament for the Champions League, without displacing the top 4. That made me change my mind and, rightly, believe that we should scrap for every point on offer, to finish as high up the league as we can. We might not finish above the gooners - but we can still brag about finishing in front of Man Utd, still qualify for European football and still give ourselves two chances to qualify for Champions League football in 2015/16. Ultimately, I'll get behind any manager who will have us playing attractive football and make us consistently competitive against the so-called "big" teams.
If only it were accurate mate. This years EL winner will not qualify for next seasons CL, it comes in, in 2015. Also, voting for 6th would still have got us EL, as Man City will not be taking the League Cup Winners spot in the EL, that will now go to the next placed league team, which will be 6th in our league. It could potentially go to 7th if the FA Cup Final is contested by any two of the Goons, City, or Everton, who are likely to have already qualified by being in the top6 anyway.
