Van Gaal is apparently well known for being a slow starter, he was nearly sacked at Bayern Munich in his first season because his teams take time to adapt, so if he starts off poorly our fans will moan, papers will call him a joke and he will get ridiculed.

We're the worst nation in the world for being impatient, that's why our two best managers and most popular, in the premier league, Redknapp and Jol, took over situations where they could make an instant impact.

Any manager that has taken over a fresh season, has been a failure. So if we want Van Gaal to work, we keep Sherwood and if he screws up next year, we bring in Van Gaal as the saviour as that way he gets the honeymoon period to win people over!

The difference being that Van Gaal supposedly gets teams playing good, confident, exciting football, rather than negative ****e.
That's a very important factor to us lot. <ok>

I wouldn't miss Dim Sherwood at all.

Sooner he isn't our manager and players like Rose, Dawson, Naughton are sold the better.

The only way this club can have an exciting season is to have a season saviour. Sherwood saved our season after Avb so he deserves to start next year in charge.

If by Christmas we're in the bottom three then make the call to Van Gaal who will say yes and take us to cup glory.

If we hire Van Gaal in the summer, it would be too perfect, make far too much sense to work. The papers would shower us with praise, saying we now have a great manager, basically setting us up for failure.

This doesn't make sense to me. it seems like more of an "up yours" to the media, rather than what's best for the club.

so you honestly think that if we keep sherwood in charge, there won't be a long list of transfer requests and further upset to the squad?

These players signed on the promise the club is trying to build something special. All they've seen so far is some of our best players sold, frequent failure to secure a CL spot, and nothing but disruption over the management, with no plan in place.

I'd rather take the risk that there MIGHT be failure under Van Gaal, that the inevitable situation of "player power" resulting in everyone wanting out this summer because they don't like the plans for next season.

Roo have you been on Twitter, chatting to those people '' ITK'' who have convinced you that players will leave, if he stays? The only reason players sign for us, is because we're a stepping stone to bigger things, but Sherwood is the man to possibly change this, so don't assume it's a joke by saying Sherwood should stay.

Van Gaal is an old man, he may not have the heart to manage here so late in his career. He obviously took the national job because he wanted something easy now he apparently regrets it and misses club football, but we're probably just a late pay deal in his career, he doesn't want the hassle of working with Levy, a Dof and trying to coach Townsend to pass the ball.

boss, we have a track record of losing our best players, even when we're playing well and on the verge of something pretty decent. You honestly think that it won't happen again?! we're playing awful, the atmosphere is non existent and the fans are losing patience. If we lost players when things were going well, they aren't going to stay whilst we're in this mess.

Maybe you're right about Van Gaal. Maybe he is too old. Maybe it is his pension. But we need someone proven like him.

Your mate Harry Redknapp was in his 60's when he took over and he didn't do a bad job.

That's all we are to Van Gaal. A pension! He won't have the passion like Redknapp. Spurf regularly sends me PMs saying he misses Redknapp and that's why he also backs Sherwood, because he learnt his trade under Redknapp.

As for the players, I honestly don't believe players would leave, soley, if Sherwood was handed the job next year.

It's only Verts who is possibly looking but that's rumours based on his negative body language, although he looks unhappy all the time so I would say it's fans worrying over mainly nothing.

how can you make that call though? we could have been a pension for Redknapp. Van Gaal has an excellent record and will want to prove to people that he can continue that in the PL.

Sherwood is not the sole reason they'd leave. What I'm saying, is that a well known manager with a great track record could help to prevent it. Keeping Sherwood is not a statement of intent from the club and doesn't show ambition to our players. Bringing in a former Barcelona and Dutch manager with a proven record, is.

it's only Vertonghen rumours for now, but if we don't qualify we'll see more agents talking up away from the club for their players.

Redknapps pension is from managing QPR, a nice steady flow of income for not doing much, he's lost some passion since he left us.

Van Gaal won't understand our mentality of running the club matched with unrealistic expectations, plus the lack of patience. More you think about it., more you realise it's set up to be a disaster.

Yeah, but it COULD have been with us and not QPR, so we can't write off Van Gaal. Why would any manager with nothing really prove to anyone want to potentially ruin their record? He'll have pride just like anyone else. Clearly he's taken passion everywhere he's been. He could just retire now, but he's stated he WANTS the challenge. Otherwise he'd just sit comfortably with the national side, which is part time anyway!

If we look at it like that boss, we might as well just give up now. Redknapp got us there, so it can be done.

So there we are, the dilamma as outlined by Roo & Boss both making good points. A very difficult decision for Levy to make and almost certain abuse whichever way he goes.

Overall I don't think we should base decisions on trying to keep players who want to leave, if we are to make an impact on the league we need players who 100% comitted to the club. We cannot judge this commitment by media as the agents will always stir as it is in their interests for players to change clubs. Shame we can't stop the agents profitng in that way, perhaps clubs should come to an arrangement to pay the agent a weekly fee and forget the player LOL

People are clutching at straws IMO if they think this or that manager will make the difference just look at how FEW have in the history of the club. Sherwood has the job, backing him and giving him confidence would be doing all of us a favour.

Ok Roo you win. Jokes, just been pulling your leg about Van Gaal just here for a pension! But I'm not convinced by all this media hype around Van Gaal, the '' Messiah '' in waiting, acting as if we should be thankful that he apparently wants to leave his job as manager of Holland, and we're helping him achieve his ambition of working in England.

All sounds like a movie script.

I knew you were reelin' me. Just you wait. I'll be plotting my revenge!

I'm not saying he's the messiah, I'm using him as the example as he's the one we're supposedly after. <ok>
