They played it this year at Rebellion. I teared up a little - I'm a big ol' softy. The Clash really hit home in 'Norn Iron'. They were prepared to play there, which most bands weren't and Punk was a unifying force in a time of terrible trouble. There was no sectarian thought or rhetoric or action and people were just people for once. I have relatives out there who were of the right age for Punk who adore The Clash and SLF and the other Irish Punk bands for showing what was and is possible. Music like sport is a universal language. It can be used for good or ill. This isn't my favourite Clash track, although it really fills the dance floor and was played twice at my last wedding. However, it was used by US forces in Desert Storm to glorify their actions. Of course, that's not what it's about and Strummer felt terrible about its usage for that purpose.
Always liked the energy of S.L.F combined with melodic tunes Love the way they take off "Capital Radio" at the end of this
It's interesting that you say that. A mate of mine, you've seen his Ramones tribute band on here, never really 'got' The Clash until about 4 or 5 years ago. When it started to 'click' this was the first track and one of his bands now play it very well..... The drummer and guitarist have been working with Johnny Moped, who turns up in the pub from time to time, and played on his recent album.
S.L.F were one of the first to do what is now described as "pop punk". Pop punk is my bag - fast guitars & drums, catchy tune, melodic vocals
Having posted Los Conos, I have to put this up. Their version of Gay Bar is a wonderful thing and usually the encore. Good times.
