I saw Joni Mitchell has won a Grammy, she wrote Both sides now in 68 age 25 re-recorded it in 2000 and last year did another version at the Newport folk festival age 79 , I wonder if the young Joni realised what this song would mean to so many people all those years later I love the 2000 version the sound of a life very well lived
There can be few better multi-genre drummers around than Gavin Harrison - and this really highlights his 'jazz' chops! And great to hear this track again. Really like the AWB back in the mid 70's
SLF have just announced their Belfast gig and guess who are supporting them... Yes, you guessed it, the boys are racking up the festivals and big outside venues. In fact, the day after playing in Belfast, they're playing in Devon. Paul Gray is not hugely impressed, but it's where the big bucks are. Having decided not to do Rebellion this year, all the money we saved is being invested in flights to and from my ancestral home (well, one of them), gig tickets and hotels, to catch up with some cousins and see some great bands. Let's hope the weather is good...and there's some decent cider on offer.... Life is good but it ain't cheap!
Anyone else a fan of Portishead and Beth Gibbons, Dummy is one of my top 20 albums Beth is making a new album after a very long time
Good to hear! Love her voice and it was perfect for the style of music they turned out in mid-90's. Wouldn't put the album that high in my catalogue, but it's certainly up there. (Thought there was just too much weird 'filler' to make it a great album). Will be interesting to see the musicians she's working with now
Can's Damo Suzuki RIP , a mate's sister played this album non stop , I thought that it was a bit out there at the time but years later you could not attend a punk gig without being played over the PA .another one gone
I loved the levellers , when they had the didgeridoo solo it gave you time to go to the bar , A mate had a lyric for the levellers " these things I bring to you , a dog on string and a can of Special Brew "
6 music just played the fantastic Damned version of " alone again or " by Love , ****ing splendid, made my day
It seems that Paul McCartneys Hofner bass, stolen in the mid '60's was just found in an attic in Sussex. Purely by chance it seems as the Police said there were no leads! Well, I thought it was funny....
Well, I never knew that! 'Waiting in Vain' makes much more sense now! https://www.instagram.com/reel/C3atobkMw3Y/?igsh=MWo3ejFhYW00cjRmcA==
Firstly, Happy Birthday to Damned Damned Damned! 47 years young, today. Secondly, Happy Birthday to Damned Damned Damned's creator, Brian James.. .who is a little bit older. Thirdly, today is THE DAY! It's been a long time coming, but it's finally arrived. I get to go to a gig for the first time since November, sometime. I've had to pass up a few in the meantime, but I'm going back with a bang! The band are Noah and The Loners, from Brighton. Tickets are a wonderful £10, and no booking fee. I'd happily pay double, so I feel a t shirt coming on. I tried to buy one in Blackpool but they'd sold out of 'old git sizes'. Mrs B got one, because the market for 'small' is tinier than the shirts themselves. Oh yeah, the singer's a Spurs fan and writes about the joys and frustrations of it. Forget Amyl & The Sniffers, this lot are the future of Punk Rock...you heard it here, first.
Despite technical issues, Noah and the Loners were excellent...and I am the proud owner of a very fine t shirt, depicting the blowing up of parliament. The main support were The Hunger. Another band of whippersnappers. They're not my thing, but they're excellent if you're into a more mainstream rock sound. This week, Stone Valley Festivals have finally announced the headliners for Friday and Sunday at all 3 festivals. Friday is The Sherlocks. I've seen them with my daughters. I can't say that they're a particularly good fit for the audience demographic and I've not yet forgiven them for blowing out my good eardrum at The Electric Ballroom a few years back. They're 'alright' but I can't help but feel they're a stand in yor someone else, who they couldn't afford, in the end. Sunday is The Stranglers. That's excellent on a number of fronts, not least that, now I don't need to purchase tickets for Guilfest, where they are also playing this summer. The Brian family bank account could fo with it. It's all good!
