Glad I got the opportunity to see Sabbath before he was forced to quit. I must admit that I wasn't expecting much from their 2014 Hyde Park gig. The support was excellent (Soulfly, Motorhead, Faith No More, Soundgarden), so I wasn't bothered. I'd already had good value for money from my ticket. The weather had been good all day, but it became overcast and windy as they played. Ozzy came out as they started and I was a little worried about how it was going to go. I didn't want to watch an embarrassment from a massively influential band. Got the mic in his hands and he rolled back the years:
Days of speed and slow times mondays Pissing down with rain on a boring Wednesday Just been to the dentist and he was playing this ( he has a choice of playlists ) it made paying over £500 only slightly less painful
Today's charity shop gem was Talk Talks greatest hits 30p because it has a cracked case , I miss Mark Hollis
The Damned are back... We have a new single...'Invisible Man' which I will post later today. It's a big improvement on anything on the last album, but I reckon the next 2 singles will be more suitable. In typical fashion, things have gone tits up. Having trailed the album , for months, with the name of...'It's a Damned New World', on its release, it's now called 'Darkadelic'. No explanation offered. Even worse, due to problems in pressing the vinyl, the album release has been put off until AFTER THE FORTHCOMING TOUR. That's just ****ing nuts. Gigs with a third of the set being completely unknown to the audience are going to have problems. The merch is already on offer with some items sold out on Day 2 of availability, which suggests someone has miscalculated badly. Mrs B didn't hang about and we are soon to be the proud owners of a Darkadelic lava lamp....at a bargain (?) price of £70.... Anyways...it's countdown time to the gigs, which is my main concern. 1st March in Southend...can't wait.
Mrs B is having to do someone's night shift, so our intended trip to 100 Club on Sat 18 March, to see The Skids, is off. The gig is sold out on both nights and should be a better. If anyone is interested in one or both, let me know...or I'll put them up on the ticket resale website.
The Damned have confirmed that they will close Thursday night in The Empress Ballroom @ this year's Rebellion Festival... ...Oh well, it's only money...and you can't take it with you! Also, Happy 50th Birthday to Raw Power!!
I saw something from Billy Bragg over the last couple of days. He will be out and about celebrating the 40th anniversary of 'Life's a Riot...'. It's extremely hard to think that it was that long ago when my great mate, Guy, first played it to a very hung over Brian on a Saturday morning. I can still recall the state of his bedroom and The Damned posters on his walls. Happy days!
I remember seeing him on The Tube I think he was in the bar playing To Have and Have Not, I loved it and bought the album the next day.
I'd long since forgotten that....but remember it now. My mate, Guy, was into the folk revival thing and used to write regularly to bands, particularly 'Everything But The Girl'...and they used to write back to him. This was his favourite song... I wanna go baaaack!
I'm selling up my Skids tickets and swapping for a Wingmen event on the following Sat afternoon, 25 March, with SLF @ The Roundhouse after. It's a bit of schlepping around London...but WTF?
I first saw Billy Bragg in a pub in Stratford called the three rabbits I think and his warm up was porky the poet ( Phil jupitus) he had just released " Lifes a Riot , seen him many times since always a pleasure and always a lump in my throat when he sings Between the Wars , Mrs Conn knows that will be my final song if she outlasts me that is
The fabulous Wingmen @ Concorde 2... The word is that there will be more gigs in the autumn. If you can, go and see them. It was really, really good and there's a significant buzz about them...sorry!
