As more information comes in, it becomes increasingly apparent that security @ the venue is likely to be a significant/the major cause of the loss of life... https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/dec/21/asake-concert-crush-what-happened-london-brixton-o2 Always thank security staff for doing a good job and point out to management when it's substandard. Mrs B has stepped in on a few occasions to assist punters/security when she feels it's necessary. We spent 25 minutes with a woman who had a fit after The Damned in Manchester, whilst Mrs B kept her conscious waiting for an ambulance...of course we saw her the next day at a bar next to the station, nursing a pint of lager...
There were lots of reports doing the rounds of fake tickets. **** knows how that's possible now, in regards to entering the venue with them. I don't think that I've ever been at a gig with really poor security, despite going to plenty. I've heard quite a lot of people saying that things aren't the same since covid, though.
I've been at a few. Mostly back in the day, when things could get out of hand on and off stage and there was no vetting at all of the people who worked in the security industry. These days. it's not violence but incompetence that's the issue. Too often, there are 15 people in security outfits standing around not knowing what the **** to do, whilst someone needs help or thoroughfares or the bar area block up with people. The Academy is is a geographically awkward spot for getting large crowds in, but no more so than The Roundhouse, which always has barriers in the right place to protect all concerned and facilitate safe entry. This time it seems to be staff letting people in without tickets...and not even being subtle about it. That's dreadful management and ****ing dangerous.
I suspect that it might be due to experienced staff moving on during covid. The hospitality industry was basically dead at one point and people found other jobs.
That's where training would be a good idea. Unfortunately, training takes time and costs money and there's a lack of decent candidates, so it's easier to employ any old ****er and hope that they will be up to the job, should anything need some response beyond a mere shrug of the shoulders and looking ****ing lost. it's Britain in the 2020's...terminally ****ing useless.
As long as they have a black zip up jacket and a pair of boots that will do I have a rule now, never use a pub with security on the door , I went to Bristol a couple of weeks ago and most pubs in the town centre will not let you in without photo ID ,we was a bunch of 60yr old blokes , my photos are sepia
No, it isn't. I just hope that it reopens with better management in place. South London can't afford to lose too many more venues, or there will be nothing left. Tonight I should be up in Herne Hill for this excellent night... please log in to view this image Unfortunately, I'm still under the weather and we're hosting Christmas, so sadly, I'm having to make my excuses, which is a great shame as 48 Thrills are a top band, who played my 40th birthday and let me get up and murder Complete Control with them...and i used to drink with Pete, the bassist and work with Joe Williams, the guitarist and singer. Hopefully, they'll be back again next year....
We made it to this one on Monday. The Professionals with Glen Matlock and Billy Duffy...? ****, yeah! We loved The Molotovs. they're the age that The Undertones were when they broke...and have a great future ahead of them. If you love The Jam and they're playing in your area..."Go and see them. You'll love them!"
Just looking at the footage it was clear the security ****ed it, as every gig in the last 10-15 years at Brixton I've been to not only has barriers right in front of the steps at the front of the venue but also a good 50ft worth down the side street so the queue is funneled into it - but the footage from the other night shows people could just walk right up to the doors from the street The fact there's also footage of the security kicking people on the ground inside the venue makes it even more obvious they didn't lose control of the situation, because they never had control in the first place
RIP Maxi Jazz , I used to have this riff as my ringtone , it pissed off my manager no end which I loved
This has been a **** week for music deaths Loved Insomnia by faithless, Terry Halls death was a real shock as I loved the specials and funboy three especially and Primal scream did a few of my favourite records...and none were old than 65 ffs
I got the Springsteen album for Christmas "only the strong survive" Bruce takes on Motown classics and makes a decent job of it
Just watching this ... and I realised this was filmed in the sets used in the "Ashes to ashes" video, for a broadcast that went out months before said single was released. It shows us the high regard Kenny Everett was held in by the big beasts of music.
